shot first and then steam milk here. The boiler has to heat up the steam so seems to make sense to do it that way.

While the espresso can wait, i believe the milk should be poured immediately

I pull the coffee first and then do the milk. The milk is textured very quickly with this machine so the coffee is not waiting long. It takes me twice as long to get the coffee ground, dosed, tamped and then pull the shot . So I figure the milk would be waiting around alot longer if I steamed first. This is probably because I have "nailed" milk texturing and can do it with little fuss, but I am still struggling to get the shot perfect so i tend to fuss around it for longer. If you are a gun at pulling shots maybe it would be different for you.

I had a lucy which is the silvia with built in grinder and always poured the shot first.

I did try it the other way but it took a lot of water to get the temp back down to brewing temperature. It was easier to pull the shot then steam the milk.

                  foam!

Ive struggled to get foam with the 300ml jug that I first bought.

Took delivery of a 600ml (both Rattleware brand) and I get foam every time, without even trying. Odd, when everything I read indicates its easier with a small jug.

Just goes to show that individual style (?!) and machine varies the result.
