Now very excited about the forthcoming arrival of brevilles new machine. So thought instead of all the hype you could help me put something in the negative column so when I show it the OH she will at least think I have tried to balance things up.

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
My comment is
Its your money and you can do what you want with it as Australia is also a free country
* Always base your decision on the features " you " want for a price that you can afford
* Do you trust the Breville products (many do)
Nothing much more to say until it arrives
And it will arrive very soon

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
Only one thing that I can think of (and it legitimately would stop me buying it). The reliability is entirely unproven. No matter how wonderful it is, no matter how good the coffee is, no matter how good the price and usability is....if it spends half the time in the shop, then its useless.
I personally would wait at least 3-6 months, and see how it goes once it hits mass market, as opposed to a few engineering samples that people have seen.
If anyone wants to come in here and argue that its fine to buy a new machine as its been tested etc.....just look at what happened with the iPhone 4....

Another good point
However (fingers crossed) I hope it proves to be a winner and spends more time on the kitchen bench

Thats almost everyones hurdle that is handled delicatelyOriginally posted by 04124E014E0A4E1009030B0512090E07600 link=1309865502/4#4 date=1309866786but I live in my house and need to get OH approval
I find by offering an item of similar value the better half wants as a trade off, then its a given
But you have to be able to afford it

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
Eek. I just ordered one of those! I thought about waiting 3 months, then 6 months, but if I waited a year, then I could really be sure. No wait, the I27 will be out by then.Originally posted by 203F3D273E2B3C3D2A520 link=1309865502/2#2 date=1309866107just look at what happened with the iPhone 4....
Doc, the 900 is wider than many other machines and will take up more real estate on the kitchen bench.

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
I fully expect that this will be a brilliant machine. With all the technology incorporated it will move the prosumer goal posts shifted so brilliantly by the EM6910.
But like the aforementioned, it suffers one major flaw. It looks like a Breville! Ask yourself - Brand new top of the range Holden or second hand Porsche? What sort of person are you?
So, my vanity is its flaw ;D

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
I was surprised just how wide, 6cm broader than a lelit combi. By the time you add a grinder, knock box, tamper stand.....well youll want a good 70cm of bench width.Originally posted by 624348484F55260 link=1309865502/6#6 date=1309867854the 900 is wider than many other machines and will take up more real estate on the kitchen bench.

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
I rushed in and got an iPhone 4 as soon as they came out, never had an iphone before, unbelievable how great it is. never once had an issue with it. the people saying that there was some problem with the antenna was a load of hot air.Originally posted by 213E3C263F2A3D3C2B530 link=1309865502/2#2 date=1309866107just look at what happened with the iPhone 4....
what other mobile phone is still the best after its over a year old!?
I just use my good ol Zassenhaus which fits in the draw under the espresso machine, my knock box lives outside the front door of the van and the tamper... where is that again? tamper stand?Originally posted by 393832213F3A20530 link=1309865502/8#8 date=1309871307By the time you add a grinder, knock box, tamper stand.....well youll want a good 70cm of bench width.

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
the problems with being an "early adopter"what ever the product is.
The product is not extensively proven. However a warranty removes most of this risk.
You may pay a premium price research and development costs money and these costs have to be recovered.
Advantages bragging rights and that warm fuzzy feeling that having the latest and greatest can only give.
How you value these things is very personal.
How much money you have and are prepared to pay for this is very personal.
Only you know the right answer for you.
These are emotional issues.
the less emotional issue would be does it make better coffee than the machine I have? :-?

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900
I think that a Breville looks more at home in my kitchen than an Italian machine with the looks of a hospital heart machine. Just my personal choice.Originally posted by 2F243C272020450 link=1309865502/7#7 date=1309870848it suffers one major flaw. It looks like a Breville!

Which would be great if youd give out the required password - a week after requesting one by PM followed by an email yesterday.........Originally posted by 5B6E6364504C6069696A6A0F0 link=1309865502/11#11 date=1309930273The other advantage is that you have access to early adopter pricing which ends soon: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1203772677/9#9
