Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900

    We are nearly there!!!

Those of us in Sydney will be able to see, touch and taste a Breville Dual Boiler at Aroma coffee festival at The Rocks this Sunday. Breville will be on the ground level just behind the Overseas passenger terminal. Tucked in behind Wildfire and the Cruise Bar.

We won’t be able to take it home yet. We may have to wait a week or three for that.

I gave it a go at aroma fest today and was impressed. Produced a very nice shot , didnt have to overdose. (the dose was set up on the smartgrinder by the breville team)  I was suprised in contrast to my old 6910 , it almost seemed too easy  :-?

So thought instead of all the hype you could help me put something in the negative column  so when I show it the OH she will at least think I have tried to balance things up.

Glad to see you got the go-ahead.  I was going to suggest a new OH

As for me, I just told my wife as she does with me and all was good.

          Twenty years of bliss.

Re: Why shouldnt I buy the BES 900

I got to play with the machine at the Aroma Festival yesterday as well.

Poured a great shot with no fuss. Shame they were using the Organic Blend of Tobys which Im not a big fan of but it poured as good as Ive had it from Tobys, and the milk texture was, dare I say, better than I ever get from Tobys.

Truly impressive machine and Ive now put my order in.

The only negatives I saw were some plastic bits; the steam lever and the hot water knob. These will probably break at some point but Im hoping their easy to mod.

I WAS going to wait for a second revision, however sometimes a second revision means a drop in quality, as processes are streamlined and costs are cut. I loved what I saw/tasted yesterday and I definitely think its worth the price. Ive been drinking coffee for a long time and I dont think I could tell the difference in the cup between this and a top-of-the-line commercial machine.

I had a go at the Breville stall at the Aroma festival too. I was pretty impressed. My first time on the machine and I got pretty good results with no fuss at all.

CoffeeGuy in Brisbane have a pretty decent special on the 900, though they have sold out their first batch as well.

Check every prosumer espresso machine on the market and check if the hot water tap and steam taps are made of plastic. I cant remember seeing one thats not not saying there arent any but they would be in the minority.

The Isomac Mondiale springs to mind but thats besides the point

With the imminent arrival of these machines is there any new word on when the naked portafilters will be available? Im keen to get one as soon as a available.

As the steam tap is actually a lever, this concerned me too, so I put quite a bit of pressure on it. Having done that, I think you would need to want to break it - it wont just snap off in your hand one day.

Possibly never or at least not for quite some time. The ones Breville have were hand-tooled locally. The last time I spoke to Breville about having these available as an accessory, although keen to offer them, the cost and quantities involved were prohibitive.

Well I hope they offer spare portafilters to be purchased with the possibility of modifying it yourself locally, a bit dissapointed but oh well we cant have everything

Thats a shame as Phil told you they would be available

I assume we will be able to get spare PF and as they are SS should not be to hard to chop and polish?

If we can get together a group order of oh, say around 3000, I reckon I can bend their arm to make them for us. ;D

I dont know how hard it would be, or the cost, but think it would be the way to go.
