  • Re: Breville BES900 Dual Boiler - Owners thread

    Dave,

Personally I would pay a maximum of $100 for a naked for the dual boiler as I actually feel naked without one but prefrabably under that cost as the average cost for a naked portafilter for E61 groups go for around the $85.

I would also probably buy a single but what I would be more interested in is a double that could fit the 22g VST or 18g Synesso, I feel that having that option to split a triple shot between two people would be really handy for me and Im sure others.

    Cheers!

      Advice from owners please....

Were trying to get a bottomless filter into the country for a decent price for the 900.
What would people pay?  And how many of you would want one? What do they sell for elsewhere for other machines?
(It would be made of the same cast SS as the current handle)

And then, how many of you would also want a single spout hadle?

      Dave (Breville)
Id pay up to $100 for a naked pf. I dont need a single spout.

I seem to recall squeezing a 22gm VST into the stock handle but only have the 18s left.

          Chris? Reality check please?

No interest in single spout but would be interested in a naked pf.

            Happy to pay $100..

            Cheers,

Ive had a Breville DB for around a week now. I purchased it from Cuppacoffee one of the CS sponsors that stocks the machine.

I previously owned a Levetta/Mini Mazzer combo which i sold because i just wasnt using it enough.
We decided to buy another less expensive combo and was looking to the Sunbeam and so i started to come back on CS to look at other avenues i.e. manual brewing (already had an Aeropress )

Saw all the hype on the Breville and i do like the bang for buck.

The Breville is so easy to use and it produces the goods, i will admit i use to struggle with consistency with my old combo but now that i have this dialled in the coffee is only getting better.
As far as the gauge goes i use it as a reference only and dont get too beat up what its pointing to, i was initially too fine and choked the machine, ive had shots around 7-11 bar since and all have been very acceptable, i was a little lost for a while but something Chris wrote about this machine and in his experience it needs to be under-dosed has seen my shots going to a new level.
This morning i fined the grind up one notch and followed my usual routine and the coffee was the best we have had, i did glance at the gauge on one of the pours and it was bang on 9.

The whole combo is just user friendly and even though ive had previous experience with dosing/tamping i still think its a much easier combo to use than my previous set up and i must say the proof is in the cup and the coffees i am producing are a lot better and i am enjoying the experience instead of being frustrated with inconsistency.

The other big thing is i like my coffee hot and now i have the control to produce it just how i want it at the touch of a button instead of guessing where i was temp wise, the steaming side of things is so easy and the milk is the biggest improvement in my coffee making so i cant see why some are saying its just ok.
The shot clock is great, auto turn on is a great feature and also the other big annoying thing with my old machine was i never knew where i was water level wise and now i have the window in the front so no need to lift the lid and see where i am at.

Overall i am very impressed and its everything i thought i was buying after reading the "hype" and i can see this machine really rattling the espresso machine cage real loud.

I am very happy with my BDB 900. I have had it for over two weeks now.

I upgraded from a Breville Fresca Bes 860 that I had for 3 years. While the 860 made good coffee, the brew from the 900 is so much better.

I got the deal from Cuppacoffee. Dennis threw in a Breville Smart Grinder and some other goodies. I bought a Bogav tamper from Dennis. Both ends are made to fit the 900 (The tamper, not Dennis).

I have added one of the shims provided, to get the grinder working perfectly.

The wonderful workings of the 900 give great consistency. The main variables of my brews now are the various beans I use. I only have about 15 types of BeanBay greens to roast.

The pressure gauge consistently shows between 11 and 12. As the coffee is great, my gauge must be out by 2 to 3 bars.

With a machine like this at home, it is difficult to drink most café coffee.

I was just wondering, is the Bogav Sniper fitted to the stock double basket?

Yes Tim, the Sniper fits both the stock basket or an 18gm vst quite nicely.

                        Cheers!

Yesterday, for the first time, I saw a 900 in one of the major electronic discount stores. They had three in stock with one on the bench. Of course there was nobody there who knew anything about them.

At another major, I was told that 4 out of 5 machines they sell are pod machines.

And I would pay $80-$90 for a naked PF...

Idea - sellers match it with a BES900 friendly bogav magnetic tamper and/or VST basket in a Deluxe PF deal.
