Sorry, but that's not the right approach. Volumetrics using flow meters such as this require the volumes to be set & tested under pressure at the extraction flow rate. ie you need to measure & set these during an actual extraction.Originally posted by swamprat96 View PostTo test the single and double cup functions put no coffee in the portafilter and hit either button. You should get 30ml of water from memory from the single shot. If it keeps going then you have a doa and demand a replacement
If you are unhappy with the default volumes, reprogram them to your own taste. It's not complicated.
Cheers, Phil

Volitile memory is like RAM in your computer. Once it loses power the memory is erased.
Non volitile memory is like your hard drive. It can lose power but the memory will stay stored written on the disc.
In this case. David mentioned the BES900 has Non volitile memory, so simply turning the power off wont erase the memory.

If you guys want a sneak preview of what we've got going on at Aroma Festival this Sunday at the Rocks in Sydney, check out this youtube clip!
We've got a live feed from the micro-controller delivering data via laptop and fed into a piece of code that creates unique, one of a kind art, from how the machine is being used! It displays the data & the art on a 60" plasma & then prints the art on a coffee cup sleeve to take away and/or have it emailed to you to use as wallpaper or whatever you like!
Also have the chance to win a BES900 in your choice of colour! Stainless, Cranberry, or Black Sesame!
Hope to meet as many fellow snobs at the Rocks for a free coffee!
Cheers, Phil

I've been using my machine for a few months now & while very happy in general, there has been so much condensation that water is starting to pool at the bottom of the gauge. Based on Phil's comments I haven't worried too much about it & it's certainly not affecting the performance of the machine in any way, but there's no sign of that water dissipating so it's a concern. I guess the sensible thing is to get the machine looked at, but just wondering how common this is & how much water others are seeing in the gauge?
Many thanks,
Shane

You can't be worrying too much, otherwise you wouldn't be so coy with your process!Originally posted by nickoyang View PostI am worrying about by that time the warranty expires, the machine is blocked enough and hard to descale competely (that will be too late).
When most of current BDB users encounter the need to descale without warranty, I may post my method about performing preventive descaling (but it is a real descaling for sure).
You'd rather wait UNTIL users here are having scaling issues some time in the future, only then to reveal what they COULD'VE done to prevent the scale from getting to the point it would then be at?
That is some of the most screwed-up logic I have ever witnessed being spouted on the internet - and there's a lot of it out there!
Unless you're patenting your methodology or anything associated with the whole process, you should open your mouth and spill the beans, or shut it and stop teasing people with "I know a secret", like you do when 6 years of age!
As the general concept of a forum is to share information - good, bad, or indifferent - then perhaps you need to rethink about commenting on this subject matter until such times as you're willing to share.

Jesus! What's with the attitude?Originally posted by Thirteen13 View PostWhere did you take your machine ? I took mine in today to Swift Appliances who are the Authorized repairer for Breville and it seems just about every other electrical appliance manufacter. They had a huge list. If it comes back faulty or not working, then ill just get on the war path and demand replacement.. I asked them to give me a date i can expect to pick it up. The bloke told me 1 week and i said. Ok ill see you in 1 week. Ill be going in 1 week and expecting my machine to be done.
Someone lick the crema off your espresso?
Engineers/technicians are only human, and sometimes things don't get fixed in the expected timescale due to wrong parts arriving, secondary faults, bumped down the queue for more lucrative contract repairs, etc, etc.
Why not just be civil and simply phone to enquire if it's sorted and ready for collection?
I understand frustration all too well, but getting yourself worked up into that sort of a lather is pointless and unnecessary added stress.

Welcome to CS.Originally posted by JonnyJ View PostHi I'm new to coffeesnobs I'm considering one of these machines, I would like to know if there is a recent review? it seems like alot of people are having trouble with them and have to get them repaired! thaks for your help!
I think you are just finding that people who have a problem do come here to ask about it - and so there's less people saying how great it is. Breville have sold a truckload of these and I would say the vast majority of users ever here in this thread have either had zero problems or are otherwise very happy with their purchase. It's human nature to comlain if there is a problem and that is all you are seeing here.

Quick question. Changed beans and having some problems getting the shots right. I have the smart grinder. I'm either slightly overdosing (portafilter hard to get on and bouncing the gauge) or under dosing and getting a gusher. I'm assuming I should grind finer to fix the gusher and leave the dose alone? Tamping is approximately the same for both types of shot
