Yeah, I didn't believe the specs in the manual, so I measured it. 750ml to the top. According to the Breville Aus site, it's the same jug as I have.Originally posted by Barry O'Speedwagon View PostMaybe they ship a different size jug in diff. markets (WiredArabica is in NZ)? But yeh, 750ml seems a strange choice.
The jug capacity isn't the starting volume of the milk. 300ml is about a finger width below the start of the spout for me.

But you said it was on the large side and to be honest it's the same size as the smallest jugs I currently see here in the shops. A perfect size for 2 milk coffees.Originally posted by WiredArabica View PostYeah, I didn't believe the specs in the manual, so I measured it. 750ml to the top. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, most I've seen seem to be 600ml (or 20oz, 590ml) with the next size up being 1L. Not that it really matters.Originally posted by DavidW1960 View PostBut you said it was on the large side and to be honest it's the same size as the smallest jugs I currently see here in the shops. I normally find that I'm using my 300 or 600ml jugs anyway depending on whether I'm making 1 or 2 milk coffees. I find that for my cups the 750ml is just a bit too big if I fill to the bottom of the spout. And if I do that I find I need to surf a bit more aggressively to get enough air into the milk particularly if I'm doing cappuccino. But that's just me and my machine.
As an aside, I could be wrong, maybe just my imagination but I'm sure the steam output isn't quite the same as the machine was out of the box. Shrug. Maybe my milk supply is just going through a difficult time at the moment (I use full cream, non-homogenised). Cos it couldn't possibly be me

WiredArabica:
I found that too (steam pressure dropping off). I unscrewed my tip and there was a tiny bit of milk crud in there that I got rid of, and it seemed back to normal after that. (and yes I do the regular purge, wipe immediately after steaming). I now regularly take it off, poke it with the included tool and blow it out to make sure there is nothing in there.

Hey Crazy (welcome, btw), yep the steam nozzle gets removed and cleaned often. Last time I used a damp cotton bud to clean up inside the wand itself too - was a bit of brown gunk that can out.Originally posted by crazysurfanz View PostI found that too (steam pressure dropping off). Thing is, at first steaming with this was childs play compared to my previous EM6910. The steam volume may well just be perception. At the moment though, I do wonder about the milk itself. Seems fresh enough, and seems to texture and incorporate well in the jug, but separates very quickly once poured.

Hi gang just a quick note. Had a pressure problem with my BDB. Took it down to Swift and credit where credit is due .
Dropped it off at 10.15 am got home in the evening had a message on the answering machine ready for pick up.
Wow a few hours very good service. I was scared something might be wrong...LOL
Making great coffee again I have to say I do love this machine bang for buck is great.
It can hook you in though , i have purchased the breville naked portafiller. Using the VST Baskets and Pullmans Tamper.
Invested in the Breville Milk Cafe for making hot choc and Chai Lattes for 2 of my daughters (Non Coffee Drinkers)
Using the breville smart grinder as well.
My bar has ended up like a cafe now the wife has booted me out of the kitchen
For WA people using Bruha Voodoo Sax and Brownes Cafe Milk
BDB i love it..... when are they bringing out the next version with two group heads ?
Make my life easier when you got a people over

Choppy,
Good to see a positive ending to your coffee story.
Did they say at Swift what your trouble was? Looks like the problem I had with a bung O ring which was fixed within a day.
What sort of music do you make with the Bruha Voodoo Sax?
Living in WA you may have hard water. What precautions do you take to limit the formation of lime scale in your BDB?

I think I must have failed physics in coffee school. I can't work out why this is and its making me worried that my BDB is going nuts...
In the day when I drink my usual campos superior blend I hit 9bar and the shot (double ristretto) came in at a 14s. A little too short I thought... usually my shots vary from 16s-20s depending feelings of the day. Just 30mins ago, I pulled a swiss water decaf from campos I thought, underextracted at 7.5bar and it came in at 16s!!! tasted ok although it did gushed a bit.
Why would a higher pressured shot stop earlier than a "lose" under pressured one?? Is it the size of grind? Of course the decaf is way finer... Am I going mad?

Another BES900 owner here, recently moved from Browns Plains to Springfield :-)Originally posted by brokenvase View PostWow! What are the odds of that? I stay at Forestdale here at 4118 too. I'm no expert and only had my BDB for 2 months. My coffees are ok and have the occasional "wow that's good" ones. I do stock a few other blends for variety. But mainly campos at the moment. I wouldn't mind a swap as I've been curious about Di Bella. If you are keen, we can swap some beans :P
Maybe you, me and Mellcrystal should get together one day and talk coffee?

My brother in law wants to get a new machine (he has EM6910 Sunbeam). I have not been following the Breville threads and dont want to trawl through 65 pages. Can anyone give me a nut shell summary of this machine (and versus the Sunbeam and the Rancilio Silvia; I am steering him towards the later for longevity and getting more familiar with manual brews, but it may be the Breville is proving reliable, I dont know).
Cheers

I've been having a strange issue with my machine over the past week. I've been making great coffees since I bought it, then all of a sudden EVERY coffee I make tastes like there's soap in it. I tried cups of water coming out of the group head and no soap flavour there. I condensed some steam and no soap flavour there either. I tried two different types of beens with the same results..
Then I read online somewhere that a soapy taste can mean my coffee is under extracted.. So I raised the temp a little and made sure my shots took longer but it didn't change anything. Today I tried going the other way and lowered the temp to 91 and with a 30 second shot all of a sudden there was no soapy taste. Halleluja. I'd still like to nail down exactly what's been going on so I can avoid that happening again. Can 1 or 2 degrees really have such a pronounced effect on how the coffee tastes or is there something else I'm missing?
