  • Hi

Thanks all for your recommendations --will try first adjusting with coffee grinds and see how that goes --I have tried various settings on the grinder but will again after adjusting the amount of expresso as suggested.
    Thanks

    • With as much customisation as the bdb offers, i stick with the completely stock settings. Ive changed it up a bit to try it out, but i find im making pretty good cups with just normal settings.

      • exactly after 1 year since my last year posting in CS.
My BDB failed this morning, no pressure and no water coming out from the group head.

Most likely is the same O-ring issue that I had 12 months ago. Anyone know if it is possible to DIY and change the O-ring?

        • It probably is possible to diy but since this is a known issue with these machines and yours is likely to still be under warranty since they were only released mid 2011 and have a 2 year warranty I'd be taking it back to Breville as they have now designed a gasket to replace the o-rings to resolve this issue. Hopefully yours won't come back dented like mine did.

Yours too? I just picked mine up a few weeks ago with a massive dent in the base below the steam leaver. The repair agent simply shrugged and said 'wasn't me, must've already been there when you dropped it off.' So incredibly frustrating - don't you think I would've noticed a massive dent in my machine.

            • Sounds pretty typical, happens with cars heaps too. Some people are just shit and lazy and dont care.

              • Dents? Talk about adding insult to injury. Seeing this makes me think one should take photos when dropping it off to document the condition before 'repair.'

Maybe a DIY approach is better. Then the dents will be your own!

                • The only problem is parts like this new gasket that are not generic will never be made available to the general public. In my case the machine went back to Breville and despite assurance the dent would be made right and a couple of follow ups from me they were never to be heard from again. Luckily the dent in mine is only small and around the back.
No doubt mine will have to go back again soon as it was repaired before this new gasket was developed so I'd say it just got replacement o-rings which seem to last about 12 months.
Has anyone had a descale done by Breville/agent and know what they charge for this service? With the early machines now approaching 2 years in service it's probably time to consider getting this done?

                  • Hi all,
I have searched high and low and can not find a reference to my problem.
My BES900 is approx 9mths old, been absolutley great.
I use a selection of fresh beans from a number of online and retail shops....
Typically for a double shot I get around 35-40sec extraction, which gives me a great start to the day.
For the past 2 days, no matter which bean (I have 3 atm) tamp pressure, grind size, etc..... I get exactly an 18 second extraction?
I have left it turned off for a period, tried a factory reset, makes no difference.

                    Any help really appreciated.

                    • I found the one and two cup buttons to be quite unreliable and random in the volume delivered from shot to shot (despite constant grind and tamp) after a few months use, the only solution is to use the manual button.

                        Thanks Argus,
It's more that it is exactly 18sec, no matter what I do, like it is being overidden with a set timed shot ?....... Is there a setting somewhere that does this ?

No, the 2 cup button...... and yes, I can pull a 35 sec shot using the manual button.

Start learning to use manual and your problem will go away.

Second the recommendation of using the manual button... However have you tried programming the 2 cup button with your desired parameters?
