My machine crapped itself this morning. I pulled my first double with no problems. Tamped the second one and pressed the manual button and no pre-infusion and then no pressure on the gauge.
I removed the portafilter and tried all the Manual, single and doubles without anything in there and no water is coming out the shower screen.

Thanks - i've tried the factory reset, but it made no difference. I'm pretty much convinced it must be a physical fault. I'll get around to putting it in for service before the warranty is up.Originally posted by PrescottCR View PostSimon- I think there's a way to reboot the system, so-to-speak. You might try the old network router trick of unplug, wait, re-plug too.
I want to say someone had a suggestion of holding down some combo of 4 buttons to completely reset the machine.
I agree, it should work as advertised.
Hope that gets worked out for you!

I'm confused, although that seems to be a regular occurrence these days.
I just watched this video:
Crew Review: Breville Cleaning Tablets - YouTube
When it goes through the cleaning cycle, water pours out of the water filter. How does it do that when the rubber disc is blocking the holes at the bottom of the basket? Mine doesn't do it when I run it through the cleaning cycle. In fact, all I see is "soapy" (for want of a better word) water flushing out of the bottom of the machine and into the drip tray. I put the rubber disc into the single basket, put that into the portafilter, put the tablet on top, hook it into place and run the cycle.
Am I doing something wrong?

Well I bit the bullet and ordered the Dual Boiler plus Smart grinder. I am rather looking forward to it - upgrading from a BES860 that is about 3 years old now.
Went into the Good Guys at Browns Plains in QLD...and it seems they aren't stocking them anymore. They did indicate they would order it in if we wanted, but overall they were actually quite rude about the whole thing. I'm not sure if the sales lady had a problem with us or the machine in general, but they certainly didn't seem to want sell us one (although they did offer to sell us the banged up, never been cleaned display model for $1200!!!!). Checked out Hardly Normal's too, but they didn't seem to have stock and nobody wanted to serve us at all.
So after a disappointing afternoon, I started looking online. Ended up ordering from Appliances Direct Online. Got the Dual Boiler plus Smart Grinder for $1300, a deal I am happy with. The down side is they are out of stock so I have to wait until early to mid April for delivery...a little unfortunate but no big deal. Lucky I am a fairly patient person! The online store was great to deal with and very forthcoming with information regarding stock level and expected delivery dates. They even answered the phone within about 10 seconds of me ringing.
So all up I'm pretty excited about my new machine. I'm also surprised and a little bemused that the best service I got was from an online store - given the local stores can't really compete on price they only really have good service to sway me away from buying online...and this time they failed dismally.

Hi all! I have had my dual boiler for a week now. After a bit of experimenting with the grind I am consistently pulling good shots, with an occasional great shot. Just a quick question. Mine does not display a shot timer at all. Is this due to some revision in the firmware? Thanks

Hello and welcome Sammy and Don,
The major discount electrical stores near me usually have the BDB in stock, however as you can see from their displays they sell more of the pod machines and super autos than the real manual machines as used by us Snobs.
Most people drink instant at home. With horror I can remember that I once did. By accidentally finding good coffee at a café or at a friend’s place we can yearn for something better at home.
While pod machines and super autos give better coffee than instant and are very easy to use, they don’t allow the user, who with good fresh coffee and some skill and a manual or semi auto like the BDB, can make great coffee.

5. For all its apparent success, the BDB Mk I is probably something of a trial run for Breville and its manufacturing plant, and it's been something of a trial for some if not a lot of its early users also. That's not meant to excuse the BDB's faults, but some are to be expected; it's what Breville does about them that is key. Phil McNight tells us there are Mk II and Mk III versions to come, so let's hope they incorporate some lessons.
Hello all, Does anyone know when BDB mk ll will be released, I'm ready to purchase this machine now but may hold off for next version.

Seems the BES900XL/B (whatever the B may mean?) has already begun to appear in the US according to a post on CoffeeGeek.
While the mk1 may not have been a trial run the claimed testing to the equivalent of a ten year service life can certainly be taken with a grain of salt (or perhaps the testing was based on a user that makes one coffee a month). From what I have read it appears a number of improved parts are fitted when a machine goes in for service. While the latest production would incorporate the improvements you won't know when the mk1 machine you buy was actually made so I'd probably hold off for the mk2 or consider something else if you want something now.
