Well 15 months in ive had my first major issue... my pressure when pulling a shot is taking ages to build up and then only makes it to about 8bar... With the blind in it still comes up to full pressure but takes about 11 secs... also the pre infusion seems to be inconsistent in its operation.. sometimes the pressure doesn't move off 0 other times seems to work as intended... Im going to get them to look at the portafilter flying off issue while they have it and see if I cant get some action on that issue.. hopefully push for replacement handles?? I spoke to Breville and they gave me details of the closest service agent Obrien Electrical in Seven Hills... has anyone sent their machine there? Also I noticed in the thread that some people had their machines picked up by courier at Breville's expense? is this just for remotely located people?

Breville BES900 Dual Boiler - Owners thread

I'm thinking of buying a dual boiler and heard that the BES920 is coming out soon. I am just wondering whether there are major issues with the BES900 after 2 years of operation?
I read that there is a shot lock (after 1500 shots or so?), pressure loss, no steam and also "flying" portafilter (which i hope will be solved in BES920).

Trippleface, here is a list of the improvements on the BES920 (aside from the other issues that have already been fixed like the mis-calibrated OPV valve):
1) Self descaling system - able to be descaled by the user
2) More accurate shot dose using a single flow meter design
3) Improved design on double spout
4) Improved design on filter holder ramps
5) Improved material on shower head o-ring to reduce corrosion
6) Improved filter baskets design to reduce puk sticking
7) Higher wattage (2400W)
8) Adjustable steam boiler temperature to allow high steam wand pressure
9) New 480ml jug matched to the capacity of the steam system
I am in the same boat as you though, thinking of the BDB but wanting to wait for the new model. Also curious about what user issues have arisen after two years.

Thanks for that info. I'll definitely get the naked PF once i get the BES920 (any release date set yet?) =)Originally posted by TheBeardedBarista View PostTrippleface, here is a list of the improvements on the BES920 (aside from the other issues that have already been fixed like the mis-calibrated OPV valve):

Just wondering whether the BES920 will be released in Cranberry colour as well?
Any update on the machine lock down if reach certain shot counts?

Another post from the same BES920 thread to consider when making a machine choice.Originally posted by Calibrator View PostHas anyone else noticed Breville have halved the warranty period on this revision model ? With some uncertainty still about the ongoing reliability of the BDB it almost forces you into buying a warranty extension plan. I have been waiting patiently for the release of the BES920 but that reduced warranty may just be the factor to consider alternatives now.

The source of the 1 year warranty claim is not breville just a retailer presale page, brevilles website shows their other new machine 'the oracle' will have a 2 year warranty so its reasonable to assume the BES920 would tooOriginally posted by tiddler2 View PostAnother post from the same BES920 thread to consider when making a machine choice.

I had one of the original model BES900 fail on me with the solenoid O ring issue a couple weeks back. Bought from Noel Leeming NZ Dec 2011. Noel Leeming told me it had only a 1 year warranty, but in fact Breville gives it 2 years. I did buy a warranty extension for 3years just to be safe. Service agent replaced the O-Ring and steam pressure sensor and something else - paper work evades me.
First coffee pour was a fail with near zero pressure. Looking at the coffee grounds realised half the grind was still coarse for plunger coffee from previous setting. Next pour was perfect at 9 bar and tasted awesome. Happy camper now...Last edited by namartinnz; 8 November 2013, 03:51 PM.

Not sure that means anything. I've got mine last year for $1100 - for the both of them…Originally posted by neilo63 View PostGood Guys selling the BES900 with the BCG800 Smart Grinder bonus for $1199.00 - must be making room for the BES920!
Just dont know if i should wait for the 920 so the O ring issues are unlikely to occur.

Jimmy- you could post this info over on the 920 thread as well.
That seems like QUITE a difference in price, but then the Aussie Breville site lists the 900 @ $1499 IIRC, so anything around $1200 is a discount.
The Oracle is also on the Aussie site, I downloaded the manual for grins. There's a lot going on with that machine, and it comes with a knock box (smaller than the separate one we can buy). I'm hoping some of the features from the Oracle are carried over to the 920. Um, not that I NEED a 920. Just so I can recommend them.
Oddly enough, the BES920 wasn't on the Aussie Breville site when I check last!

I saw the oracle in a HN catalogue recently and was surprised to see it there. Anyway caused me to have a look at the breville NZ website... and they have a BES920 listed there as the dual boiler with smart grinder - making it appear as though the 920 isn't really a new model at all, just the model number for the bundle with the smart grinder: Coffee Machines | Espresso Machine | Breville Coffee Machine
I can't tell whether there is any change in the machine itself in that bundle... the page that the 920 model goes to is broken.
