When I press a single shot, sometimes it stays on preinfusion for 30 or so sends and shot never comes out
After this 93 flashes on display
If I open up the water spout I get an irregular flow (splutters and dribbles)
If I turn the machine off then on the temperature is 98 or 99
I've had it at Mr Sparky's twice now for other issues and I mentioned this particular issue, but last time I got it back I thought it had gone away.
The last place I took it to was Sparky's when the O rings went. They repaired that but the pressure has never been as high. I also asked them to do a descale and they did not do it. I wondered whether they know the Brevilles that well? BTW I have also just got the dreaded ant infestation so am reeaaly keen to get it to a repairer.
I have just started to experience what appears to be the Oring failure. A distinct lack of pressure/flow through the group head has become apparent in the past 2 week of usage. I get a weak/subdued pumping sound when pumping through the group head, yet I get a strong/louder sound and flow through the hot water dispenser when I use that function (rotary knob on the left hand side of the machine).
I believe my machine is out of warranty, however from reading this thread I should be entitled to a repair free of charge as it is a "latent defect", is this correct?
I will be calling Breville and arranging for a repair to the machine sometime this week.
I haven't suffered an ant infestation, however have had a run in with baby cockroaches about 6 months ago, appearing to come from within the machine... thankfully after a thorough clean and leaving the machine cold for a few weeks they all vacated (into traps).
Recently I've noticed my BES900 steam is pretty wet. I can see vapour coming right out of the tips. Steaming a jug of milk also takes longer than before (around 60 seconds from 4degC to 60degC). Seems to me the steam boiler is not getting up to temperature.
Has anyone encountered this problem? My machine is out of warranty, so if its a quick adjustment I don't mind doing it myself.
Well my 2nd machine has run into the same problem yet again! Seems to be something up with the age of the machine. As my BES900A did the same thing as my BES900B is doing now.
Basically when i initally started using both the A and B machine i could load the basket up and lock the portafilter into roughly "entering porta position to roughly facing straight ahead"
That would be enough distance needed to lock the portafilter into the seal and create a tight seal and no leaks and coffee would flow.
My machine has nearly 4400 cups on it now, As did my A model and its going through the same issue, where i replaced the seal and hasnt fixed the issue.
Now i need to push the portafilter to almost full opposite lock to try to get any seal on it, and yet it still leaks around the top of the seal.
I have made a total of around 9000 cups through both my A and B machine so i have a pretty excellent understanding of how the machine works. So the top of the basket is free of coffee, i clear water backflush the machine after every use and clean the shower head after each use.
Yet this issue has again popped up with the leaking seal.
My problem is last time i tried to get the issue corrected at a place here in Perth i was simply told "thats just how it is"
But really is that how it should be? I realise machinary has wear and tear, both machines run flawlessly other than this issue. But is it really ok that the machine will run for 4200 cups and then in the small space of 100-200 cups the porta will go from locking in streaight and sealing correctly to just stop sealling and leaking and just needing to be locked over as hard as possible.
Cheers guys, machine still works, just makes a hell of a mess and just concerned as ive had an A and B model now and same issue happened in roughly same amouint of use!

You must be zinging with a caffeine buzz after 9000 shots! That's insane!
Have you checked the condition of the group seal, maybe it's just worn out and needs replacing. It's a consumable item.
Cheers
As in the seal that locks the portafilter into the shower screen? I ordered a new one of them and replaced it, but a side by side comparison shows the old one still pretty much was in original shape.
Thirteen13,
I recently collected a em6910 from our local tip recycle shop and one of the modifications was to shim the group head seal, just used some gasket cardboard cut to size ,all back together, works great, cost zilch!
Try that ,
Mick

Cheers Mick thats a good idea.
Actually on that note i sent Breville a message about the issue, perhaps as the machine has been out for a while now the problem has been replicated and again Breville customer service has come through and they are doing exactly this. Sending out a spacer to go behind the seal. Sounds like it should fix it, so fingers crossed!
My BDB has started to make a terrible sound sometimes when I try to back flush with a blind filter. It seems that there is something wrong with the pump, or with a valve. Pressure does not go over 5 when that happens. The problem has not appeared yet when brewing a shot. Has this failure been documented?

I'm experiencing a similar issue with my >2 year old machine, so would be interested if anyone has a fix.
Steaming certainly takes longer than it used to. Also I find if I purge the group head at any time while steaming milk, the milk starts to make that horrible screaming noise, like its literally running out of steam?
Jad_23,
Symptoms you describe would suggest your machine has a scale build up,scale will result in temperatures reductions and lengthen the time taken to reach correct steaming temperature.
De-scale with a suitable solution,I use vinegar (white) and seems to work fine for me although I have very little scale problems as I only use rain water (tank water) and proven calcium free.
See how you go with a thorough de-scale,you will notice improvement.
Cheers

Daniel, these symptoms sound the same as some of mine - BES900A, two and a half years old, under extended warranty, and been in for various repairs more than 8 times (in shop at least 4 weeks each time). Religiously two shots each for hubby and I each morning of that time, plus a few extras when mates are over (though more have been pulled than drunk as troubles often mean tossed coffees).
The machine has never been free of symptoms, since the very first day We have muddled through.
Symptoms at present:
Often 93 temp flashes on display
Very often just keeps heating up to 99 (though this was supposedly fixed in a previous repair)
Reduced water flow overall from about 6 months old (supposedly fixed early on, but wasn't)
Reduced pressure, sometimes only up to 5 (though this was supposedly fixed in a repair)
Slower and slower extraction over time (I don't use 1 or 2 cup buttons anymore as they stopped working properly - either work ok sometimes, or not at all when pressed, or keep going and don't cut off.
Sometimes I press manual button and it just does nothing - have to turn off, wait for ages, then turn back on and start again (supposedly fixed in repair)
I have been close to purchasing a different machine and giving up on this one many times, but $$$ stops me. Should it really have been this hard? Friends say I should insist on replacement, since service history shows it was in for repairs consistently from a young age (first one was 1 month in). Too late now, I guess.
