  • If it's Coles branded coffee it might be roasted by Justin Metcalf, who has the contract.

Although roasting for Coles may be seen as an oxymoron by some, I imagine Justin, who roasts with a 120kg Proaster fully

integrated roasting line, would have have insisted on some ethics re the product.......I hope.

Google his name for more info......

I have grabbed the coles Ethiopian on 2 non consecutive occasions to bridge a gap in my roasted inventory / entertain.

From memory they were within 6 to 8 weeks of roast date. I have an Ethiopian fetish and found them to be of pretty good quality and roasted very very well, ideal for espresso. If used on the day of opening they are all good.

If you can find a pack within 2 months roast date and are in a bind give them a try.
However I would recommend people normally source fresh roasted beans from a local roaster or on-line likes the beanbay ect.

      • My 18 month old BES900 is making a strange gurgling noise and fails to pump after it has been on too long, even though temp gauge doesn't show it as overheating. Not sure if it is related, but when the machine is working, if the pressure goes above say 9-10, the machine starts making a ratcheting noise and the pressure drops back to close to zero. I live in Singapore, so no service available here - it's self fix unfortunately. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

        • I suspect this might be a solenoid since I read that water-hammering noises often accompany spoilt solenoids and that seems to fit my case. Looks like I can order one on line for under $100 bucks but wouldn't want to waste my money. Does anyone out there know how to test a solenoid before I spend my money? Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks.

          • Hi all, anyone having problems with temperature rising when machine is on for longer periods. Light flashes when this happens!

            • Put my dual boiler in this week to have a couple of things fixed. The pressure gauge had stopped working and I couldn't get the bolt out to clean the screens. New gauge, group head (the bolt sheared off) and solenoid plus labour = $412.

1 month out of warranty - ouch.

              • Hi ukcoffeeguy
I have the Breville BES900 which is a little under 3 years old. For the past 6 months it has been over heating after being on for approx. 40 mins. I think it may be a common issue as i'm sure I've seen similar posts in the past.
Not sure what is causing this.
Because it's out of warranty and I'm not prepared to spend any more money on it, I just switch it off and let it cool down and try to make sure I don't leave it on for so long.
I enjoy the coffee it produces and don't regret the purchase, but when it finally dies, I will purchase a proper prosumer machine.

I suggest you read up on the new consumer laws, and contact Breville to ensure the machine is fit for purpose. One month out of warranty does not mean you cannot make a claim for partial reimbursement.

It's very important to lubricate the thread on the screw with food grade grease whenever removed from the group head.

                    • Thanks Bosco - will be in contact with Breville to see what they can do. Saroadie - I had read that tip previously and foolishly left it too late! Thought I'd share the repair experience to get those suggestions brought up again for others to avoid my experience.

BTW, great repair by Swift in Perth - had my first espresso in a week... man I missed my Breville. The Aeropress just wasn't cutting it for me!

Thanks for the reply. First machine never had this problem. I'm guessing breville are not doing anything about the issue

Hi UKGuy - I had the same issue during some of the stinking hot weather we have been having. I found that moving it away from a wall a bit to help ventilation has eased the regularity of it happening. Could be a placebo effect but seems to be working so far!

                          • I have one of the early machines and it is out of warranty and has started to loose pressure half way during the shot, the gauge drops from 9 to around 1. Can anyone suggest the best place to get the machine repaired in the Newcastle area?

New Lambton Electric Motors PTY LTD is the Newcastle agent for Breville repairs. I've had my machine there a couple of times under warranty

                              • My machine's top plate has been getting really really warm recently too, almost too hot to touch. Doesn't bother me though, I don't leave my machine on for more than 20 minutes a time. Works perfect otherwise. 2000shots and counting!
