If you're in Australia - you have 2 years warranty on the product.
If you're in US, don't know, however I would contact Breville support hotline over phone and tell them what the story is. They may decide to still offer you repairs under warranty and direct you to an authorised repair centre.

Other than that - the pressure indicator gauge is usually accurate enough - so if it's not indicating 9 bar - you don't have 9 bar.

There's a number of things that could go wrong in not pressurising, but I would try my luck with the support centre first.

    • Hi

      any advise is much appreciated

recenty my bes900 while heating and turn on, there are steam coming out from the water tank compartment, then I remove the tank and see there is a hole in the roof of the tank, steam keep coming out from there and making some spinning sound, I open the top and check it out and see leading to the steam outlet , there is a turbine devide driving by steam and that decice has a rpm sensor on it.

The he spinning sound is from the little turbine device , because so much steam going through it, it spin so fast and make noise

Any my idea what's wrong with the machine ?

      thanks

      • Just got my machine back from the service center.
Solenoid valve replaced, o rings replaced, ball joint replaced, pressure gauge replaced.

However, now my hot water wont work. Only about 15ml comes out then stops, almost like the tank is empty but water flows freely through the group head and steam wand.

Anyone know why this would be? Could it be the water pump?

It never went in with this issue.

        • Well water isnt coming out of the steam wand only steam is.. Just to clarify that.

          • Hi all, can anyone suggest a source of parts for the BES900, I need an OPV, steam wand kit or complete steam/ hot water set up and several boiler "o" rings (small for plastic pipes and bigger for probes). Also any suggestions on descaling, I have had it done before but not too successfully.
            Cheers

            • Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know how to reset the 1 & 2 cup volumes to the default values. Apparently a reset does not do this.

              TIA

              Greg

              • Haven't posted in a while.
The pump in my machine failed a few weeks ago (pump seemed to stall under load, it'd hit brew pressure for a few seconds and then drop to ~7.5-8 bar, and the pump would sound very quiet). And since the solenoid had been buzzing quite loudly for the last 18 months or so, I decided it was time to replace both.

So here's a basic pictorial guide for anyone interested. It doesn't necessarily cover every little detail but I think it has the important stuff.

                • I haven't posted for a while either. Now that I had a look, I am amazed at how many people have the same problem as I had. Just couldn't get the pressure up, got about 3.5 maybe four with the blind filter. Coffee wasn't very nice either. Also convinced that it has gotten a lot louder than it used to be.
Took it to the doctor's (TBH, was hoping he'd fix it while I was in Sydney, no such luck - four weeks turn-around, he said!)
I would like to ask your opinion about something else. The machine is 3.5 years old, but it has been back under warranty countless times, the last time was last year (I must have taken it back, just before it ran out of warranty) A friend of mine reckons that warranty restarts every time it gets fixed under warranty, but I haven't heard that. Is that true? I know from previous experience that you need to be a bit pushy with Breville, they certainly won't offer to do anything if they think they can get away with it. So, if I have the right to ask for it to be fixed under warranty, then I will ask, but don't want to look like an idiot, if my friend is completely wrong :-)

                  • Hmm, without seeing it myself it's hard to say exactly what's wrong but with those symptoms it's likely the solenoid gaskets and / or the solenoid itself. But could be pump / OPV related too.

A repair doesn't reset the warranty period, though an authorised repair centre might provide an independent warranty on the specific parts replaced. So if you know what was replaced last time that could be leverage if it's the same thing this time around.

IIRC it's a 2 year warranty. In NZ we have the Consumer Guarantees Act - basically a warranty is in addition to the CGA and can’t override or replace it. The CGA says that goods must be durable and last for a reasonable amount of time. I don't know if Australia has something similar, if so you could try arguing that an appliance that cost this much should reasonably last x years; this one has had to be serviced y times for z problems... Never know, you might get them to meet labour costs or something.
In my case my machine is 4 years old and I couldn't be bothered trying that (TBH I prefer to fix stuff myself anyway if I can get the parts). Worst part was waiting 3 weeks for the parts to turn up.

                    • Quick question - my BES900 is about 5 years old now, and for the second time it is leaking a lot around the portafilter....seems like a seal of some sort is in need of replacement. Last time it cost $300 to fix at my local (100km away.....thanks Breville) service centre, and have been quoted the same price again.

Would you recommend fixing it or just bin the thing and buy something better? It has been a good machine but the reliability is starting to fall away, there is nowhere local (Wollongong area) who will service it, and I'm not sure spending another $300 is worth it.....and to be honest I dont think the service centre is any good.

If you can afford something better, I would bin it.

Depends where the leak is coming from. Have you taken the group head seal out and had a good look at it?

                          • I've had mine 4 years and had to replace the group head seal twice. For ~$15 cost each. Fabulous machine though and most importantly produces great results.

                            • Hi All,

Ive had my machine for about 5 years now, only needed to go into the shop once for a fix so quite happy.

Im wondering if I should be doing any preventative maintence on the machine (ie. replace any parts with more robust ones)? The machine is working well, only two small annoyances:

                              1. The steam wand leaks a bit
                              2. Sometime the pump doesnt do a pre-infuse - need run it manuaully at full speed, then it will do the preinfuse again.

                              Thanks!
                              2.

I haven't, though I think that's where the leak is coming from. Is it an easy job?
