Just replaced the pump on my 6yo BES900. $50 incl pp. Only hiccup was the plastic opv is brittle so careful when tightening. Pump is the brass shaft version. Now to try and get the pressure gauge going. I guessed the setting on the opv and pulled a lovely shot but it is frustrating not having a working gauge. I have recently bought an ECM mechanika so not sure what I will do with the BES?

So pulled out the pressure gauge. The line was clear but the inlet of the gauge was blocked by scale and scum. Cleaned out with a Pickster (dental) brush and bingo. Gauge works.Originally posted by bb2wa View PostJust replaced the pump on my 6yo BES900. $50 incl pp. Only hiccup was the plastic opv is brittle so careful when tightening. Hi guys having a strange issue with me BES900 I am suddenly having issues with putting in the group and taking out even more so. Plus now leaking when doing shots. Pulled out screen, plastic thingie behind screen, and the seal and all look fine. I do use a filter from my old Sunbeam only because my tamper fits perfectly. Any ideas?
Went to go and get a new one only to find out the 920 is gone and you now have to get the Dynamic which comes with a grinder which I don't want as I have a Mazzer Mini. Kicking myself I wasn't around a week ago when these were being run out.

It seems that your group-head black plastic insert collar is crushed and needs replacing. It's about a $12 part and about half an hour work for you.Originally posted by Grey View PostHi guys having a strange issue with me BES900 I am suddenly having issues with putting in the group and taking out even more so. I've had this happen after I crammed too much coffee in the portafilter - the metallic bottom of the tamper needs to be level with the lip of the basket. If it is well above, you've put too much coffee, and that will put undue force on the collar and rip/compress it.Originally posted by inorog View PostIt's easy to replace, but make sure you un-plug the machine from the wall first!
The collar is not quite what you're pointing at - it is indeed a black one, but it's "hidden" away by the metal shroud which holds the portafilter. Your arrow actually points at the aluminium round piece which holds the stainless shower-screen. That comes off when you undo the central screw (careful at stripping it - you undo it in the same direction as undoing your portafilter to take it off. Also - make sure the machine is cold when you undo it.)
Here's your procedure for replacing the collar insert:

Or it may all be just normal wear and tear, or someone might have forced the portafilter in when it wasn't quite lined up to twist.
Anyway - it's easily fixable and definitely cheaper than a new machine.

G'day all - long time lurker, first time poster.
I've had my BES900 since 2012 and it has been remarkably problem free throughout its life.
I recently moved into an apartment (on the other side of the country), and ever since I've been here, the water reservoir has been getting scummy and leaving a white residue as the water recedes down the sides. I've always cleaned it out with hot soap and water once every few months, and I've tried switching to bottled water in case the water in my new building is the culprit, but the scum and white marks persist.
I idealllllly don't want to be drinking mould. Any idea what might be causing the problem? Or even better, how to fix it?

It's nothing of that sort - it's just hard water. You'll notice the same thing in your kettle, around all taps, and in the loo.
You can't do much about it unless you're willing to spend megabucks on a water softening installation.
You can clean the mineral stains off glass and other things with CLR, but I advise against using that for your coffee machine.

Have you moved to Perth by chance.
Someone was said Perth was where you sent your coffee machines to end up in the grave.
Having had a 920 before I used tap/filtered water through a Brita jug and could never get rid of the white marks. I got a new machine (warranty) and have exclusively used bottled water and so far it’s been great.
The thing about Perth water is our aquafers they are underneath lime deposits so that’s why such hard water.

I recently went to make my morning coffee and noticed that the temperature reading on my BES900 was 104C and steam was coming out of the grouphead. I immediately turned it off and left for a while, after powering up again, the same situation occurred.
After removing the reservoir, water started pouring out of the valve at the bottom where the machine draws water - it appears to be stuck open?
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? It does not appear to be a replaceable part.

I had one where the temperature was hot 104-107 and if you turned off the machine by the button it kept hearing. Took to in for a under warranty repair which didn’t solve any issues.
Luckily enough I took it back to Jb hifi and they swapped it without checking for a new one.
I think unless you can get a swap your machine is due to be replaced.
