    Hey Toasty,
I dont mean to be a pain, but take a breath. Im sure it seems its dragging on, but the internet does a strange thing with time - were always on, so a short while might seem like a long time - always checking, always hearing what others are doing.

So from your experience, you called your service agent on the 4th, and dropped it off on the 5th. Called, and it wasnt done yet on the 7th, and decided that as you couldnt do without it over the second long weekend, youd drive an hour to pick it up. Did you have to do that? No.

So in all, the service centre had it 1 business day? Thats not a huge amount of time.

I understand that the hype, the build-up, the excitement of getting a brand new - state-of-the-art, Australian designed, forum informed machine. Then learning that something might be off. You want to get it fixed. Bad. Its happened to me with camera gear.

Im a photographer, and have had both Nikon & Canon gear. I work with my cameras, and invest a lot in them, so I can get paid. When one of my cameras needs repairing, Canon advises 2 weeks. I have to drop it off. It might be done sooner, but who knows? Two weeks. These are multi-thousand dollar cameras and lenses. Canon is a tad bigger than Breville. So yes, that is standard at service centres.
(Nikon Im an NPS member, so I get loan gear - but I have more Canon stuff)

Teething problems are standard with new gear. You were privileged to own one of the first off the production line! However that means that you are also a mass-market tester. You purchased it knowing that Breville has a 2yr warranty, so they believe in their product. Thats more than I get on my $3500-$5000 cameras.

Im yet to buy one, (well, yet to get approval from DrWife) so Im reading all of these posts going "ummm should I?" but after meeting up with Den from cuppacoffee, seeing the machine in a domestic setting at his place, having a cuppa made with it, seeing milk textured. Im still in. When I get approval If its faulty? Im hoping it wont be, but Ill get it sorted.

So, what Im trying to say is, I hope you get it fixed. But this time, take a breather. Let them keep it for more than a day, and I really hope they sort it out for you.

    Cheers, Nathan.

PS - not trying to pick on you here -  Ive been there!

Had mine for a week before it refused to power on. Pressure was reading high - well above 11 while it was working. Emailed Breville a week ago re the high pressure reading and yet to receive a response. Dropped it off at a service centre today to be fixed.

Onya, whats your real name so I can follow up. Did you try a hard reset? With the machine OFF, hold down both the 1 cup & 2 cups buttons, then press the POWER button.

          Cheers, Phil

              Hi Toasty

Ive sent an email to our national service manager & asked him to call the Canberra service agent & find out whats the hold up & if possible expedite your adjustment.

Unfortunately we have really no control over service agents as they only perform contract work on our behalf. They do this contract work for many other small appliance companies as well as Breville. We train & appoint businesses we hope can offer reliable & timely service to our products, but sometimes our consumers expectations arent met.

Me, Im like you & I want it yesterday! Thats why when I owned a cafe I did all the repairs & servicing myself for both equipment & the building.

Hope to have some news soon.

              Cheers, Phil

                Just a general comment.

If you think your OPV is not regulating pressure correctly, contact our customer call centre and they will direct you to your nearest authorised service agent who will be able to assess & adjust the OPV if necessary. tel 1300 139 798

                Cheers, Phil

Before adjustment, when mine was a touch above 12 (blind filter, extraction around 11.5), I could still get 60mLs before blonding on a double.

Im willing to be proven wrong on my early blonding if anyone with a bit of experience living in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne wants to come around and have a coffee or two.

Just to clarify, I wasnt casting aspersions on your technique. I took heart that you have been playing with all variables one by one and are able to pull good shots from a Silvia. I was more stating the experience on my machine is...

My understanding of mass production factory lines (which admittedly is close to nil) is that you can get a lot of variation in some units coming off such a line and more wanted to point out that maybe some are operating a bit different.

However, thinking about it today, I realised I am using a VST 18g basket and have been from the start. Ive never actually pulled a shot through the Breville basket. Maybe I was getting 60mLs without blonding even when the pressure was high because of the basket and how much coffee fits in the basket. A possibility, anyway.

I didnt take that comment personally. It was actually more of a plea! I would love if someone could come and make me a coffee with my machine and prove me wrong ;D
RE: the basket. Ive used both the standard breville double and a synesso double and was getting mostly similar results (apart from having to dose higher into the synesso).

Anyway, dropped the machine off today and am expecting to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully Ill see a nice change

                      Hi timmyc,

Let me know how you go - Ive been struggling to get a pour to last more than about 32 secs Inc. 6 sec pre infusion without blonding. Also using the synesso.

Have found that if I upldose the bejesus and have the grind a bit coarser that the results are better though...However we are talking 22-24 g of coffee...

If my car needs a service, but is nevertheless perfectly drivable, then I book it in for a service and take it in on the nominated day for the job to be done. I dont drop it in, and then leave it there for days/weeks while they find the time to do it.
glad Im not the only one who cant understand service centres insisting on machines being left with them while in the queue. When I had my Sunbeam it needed a minor problem resolved. I tried (politely) to convince them to let me "book a spot" in the queue and bring it in when they were getting close, but no. Had to leave it there on the shelf for over 3 weeks so that they could work on it for an hour... frustrating...

Still, the effort Phil and the Breville crew are putting into resolving these problems is encouraging.

Heres the response from our national service manager.

                            "Phil

Have spoken to the agent this morning and he said that the customer has already picked the unit up for his weekend use and was going to bring it back for the adjustment.

He did explain and apologise to the customer about the delay as he had to take time off to take his dad to hospital for unforseen heart issue.

Can you please advise him to drop the unit back to Premier Instruments."

                            Cheers, Phil

I had my OPV adjusted today and the main differance I found is it has just made it even easier to pull a good shot.

Before achieving 11 sec before it starts to pour and 34sec total shot time sometimes was a bit hit and miss, now its a piece of cake.

There is less blonding in the shot too.

Taste wise.... hard to say....it could be a bit better but maybe the adjustment has placebo effect..
