I do have one issue though, I have quite a serious build up of condensation in the pressure gauge, to the point where I cant read the numbers. Has anyone else experienced this and can it be fixed at home rather than drive 45 mins to my closest service centre???
Just spoke to the engineer on the project & he says this may occur in circumstances where there is a lot of steam, either from the group head from puirging or hot water spout or purging steam wand & the glass face of the gauge is cold. The good news is, because it got in, it can get out again as well, given a bit of time. All the electronics up in this area are sealed, so thats not an issue.

    Cheers, Phil

I cant wait until the naked portafilter comes out for the BES900.

Any news on an approximate time and cost?

      Thank you.

I have to wonder if the naked pf will be done by Breville themselves? the one I have now is done by a company that repairs espresso machines and sells factory replacement parts. they take a facory replacement portafilter and run it through a CNC machining program they developed for the purpose.

Yes, the naked PF will be made by us & not out-sourced. If you do take your original Breville PF to a third party for machining, be prepared for an up-charge &/or a lot of bad language from the machinist....its 100% investment cast food grade stainless steel & is pretty difficult to machine. I know our machine shop here hates doing them! Price? North of $100, but nothing final.

          • Re: Breville Dual Boiler - Disdain from ignorant Espresso/coffee shops

            Hi Fellow owners!

So Ive been loving my machine, and perhaps going a bit nuts on seeking the "perfect shot". I got mine bundled with the smart grinder (needed the shims, which the team at breville on facebook sorted quick-as!), so the very first shot pulled was lovely - head and shoulders above my old 800ES. After reading a lot on this forums and others I invested in a mazzer super jolly (doser) and the coffee jumped that bit sweeter and uber delicious (I use the smart grinder for plunger and decaf).

Being a coffee lover (and obviously a bit of a coffee geek) I sought out all the local suppliers of various coffee accessories such as tampers, tamping stands, coffee beans, and jugs. Here is where i get to the crux of it - when I mentioned I had a Breville coffee machine I got some seriously rude responses - grunts of disdain, laughter almost and the attitude that I was of low espresso quality. The fact that they DIDNT KNOW WHAT THE BDB was made me laugh inside. It also made me walk out and not spend a cent on their ignorant, snobbish asses.

Has anyone else come across this?? I know the breville is a serious class act (my taste buds confirm several times a day!) and having worked in retail in past lives it makes me made that such attitudes based on zero knowledge and fact are out there..

Basically in Auckland avoid Customs Coffee House in Queens Arcade - the bit about the BDB scorn was the tip of the iceberg - also had the gall to tell me the only way to get a good coffee was to fill to the top of the basket and expressed down-the-nose "you know nothing" opinion/looks when I said there are differing opinions on that..

Observe the power of the internet :-*
I am sure there will be lots of members of this forum who will be avoiding specific vendors based on comments and feedback made on this site.

And I know there are lots of members that patronise specific vendors based on the comments and feedback on this site.

Hatchard, your machine is never likely to become an heirloom, but Im sure its capable of making as good a coffee as any you might get in those establishments you visited.

                Dennis, Cuppacoffee, and specific vendor.

Hehe.. the only reason it wont become an heirloom is that Ill have won the lotto and purchased a speedster... one can dream.. Definitely the case about the thoughts, views, reviews and helpful discussions on this site and others - leads to trusting vendors and us spending money with them - its a 2 way exchange that both sides have given value. Also, given that my last breville (800ES) lived through 6 years of daily use without a single issue of any kind I have high hopes for the longevity of the BDB (not withstanding upgraditis!).

PS Also my chance here to say thanks for all the members contributions on this site I went through in detail before buying the BDB..

Well, after reading the first 5 pages of this thread I decided to go for the Breville as the replacement for a 5 yr old Saeco Magic Comfort.

Obviously a big step up and I must commend Breville on the ease of use to extract a decent shot even by me!

I also cant praise Dennis from cuppacoffee enough for his service and the fact that he saved me his last machine, then invited me to his home to see how good the Breville is!

I have a lot to learn but Im getting there although it may take a while before I can pull a shot as good as the one Dennis pulled but I guess hes had a little practice

Congrats eaglemick, you wont be dissapointed. You might sacrifice a bit of coffee, dialing in the grinder and getting used to the machine in general but once you have it all down pat its like gold.
Heaps of useful info here too if you get stuck.

                        Good luck!

Hi -not sure if this is the right forum but can any owners of the Breville 900 confirm - i heard the machine takes about 5 minutes to heat up every monring - is that accruate? if so is that annoying or have you just gotten used to it?

I like mine to be on for at least 30 minutes before use, to ensure everything is good and heated. Phil from Breville has previously mentioned the importance of ensuring everything is good and hot. You can speed this up by running some blank shots through it.

Id say it takes 5-10 minutes before the machine indicates that it can start extracting shots (extraction buttons become active), depending on the ambient temperature.

None of this is a big deal, because theres a wake-up timer on the BES900. If you want to start extracting shots at 7:30am, just set it to come on at 7:00am. Just make sure its got plenty of water the night before, and make sure the portafilter is in-place. Heating of the portafilter is just as important as the heating of the rest of the unit.

be surprised if theres a single machine recommended by CS that requires less than 30 mins warm up prior to (optimum) use
