the portafilter popped out mid shot
This stops once the basket and gasket are "seasoned" and can restart again if any detergent left on the basket after a clean

Its not heaping as high as Phils video, rather its only about twice its compressed volume equivalent.
It sounds like your grind is too course

Helpful for the descaling prospects I suppose
Not necessarily depends on the mineral content of the bottled water some are soft some are hard

Hi Therin, a few things Ive found that I hope you might find helpful.
I usually lock the group handle in where it feels snug, usually  at 6 oclock.
You may need to grind finer of dose a tad more but this will vary from batches of beans you buy, how fresh they are etc...
I believe that bottled water is ok, just not de mineralized water. I could be wrong on that maybe someone else can confirm.
Dont leave your beans in the grinder hopper. Keep them in a air tight container in a cool dark place.
      I hope this helps.

Sent a text to my husband but he says "we need to talk about it". Depending on the outcome of that talk, Ill either need to call Dennis first thing tomorrow morning or wait quietly and hope the upgrade bug goes away.
Husband says wait a little while - youve only wanted this machine for three days. So I guess I will wait until the next shipment arrives from Breville and decide whether or not I still want this machine as much then.

When does cuppacoffees new shop open and are you expecting to receive any stock of the next shipment?

Open? Good question. Either the 5th or 12th December - not sure yet. I can be contacted by phone on 0404 049 812.

Stock? I cant see us stocking it again for quite some time. ie. 2012....we have other priorities till then.

I just hopped down to Syd Myers store to look at this machine. Great display there, had a deconstructed machine with cutaways on the boilers etc, pretty impressive merchandising actually. That was all brought down in a crashing heap when the floor salesperson came up and asked if I was looking for a coffee machine, she said - yes this ones nice, but if you want to steam and brew at the same time you will need to buy the Sunbeam, and its half the price. Epic fail Myer, I guess this is the risk of selling through chain stores. Im currently weighing up whether to buy one of these or a Giotto Premium Plus, to replace a trusty old Sunbeam 6910. I missed on winning a Giotto in the finals of an amatuer barista competition in the weekend, and its got me thinking. The outright "chutzpa" of the giotto really appeals, but the geek inside of me appreciates the technology thats gone into the Breville. Help me out here 900 owners !! - AJ

              Hi Guys
Need some advice here, what would you do ?
I dropped off my DB to my local repairer here in Adelaide (Ivesons electrical) almost 2 weeks ago and Ive rang them twice and am told .."oh its still in the work shop".
When I dropped it off I told them that the portafilter keeps popping out mid shot and I got the reply "oh you didnt install the rubber O ring" This told me he didnt know what he was doing.
Then I told him that the machine was pouring the perfect shot at 12 Bar and not 9 Bar so if he could adjust it he looked at me as if I was nuts.
Do I ring Breville direct and complain ?

                Hi Groover,

Ivesons arent trained in how to service your BES900. Who told you to take it to them? In any case, Ive asked our national service manager to call them & find out whats going on with your machine. Will let you know when I hear something.

                Cheers, Phil

This, Right here, this is the part I dont understand, if this told you he didnt know what he was doing, Why on gods green earth did you leave your machine with him?

Especially if he had no comprehension of the OPV fix.

Eh, if it were me, Id pick my machine up, turn around, and march straight out the building with it and not look back.

Is there any danger in putting cleaning powder into the portafilter while doing a daily back-flush with the rubber disc, or should cleaning products only be used during the actual cleaning cycle?

He did say to me it was the first one in Adelaide with a problem and he just had to down load the fixes of the net. Hey if Breville Australia service center tells me to take it there , what am I supposed to do say no ?

the machine is ready to be picked up. Heres the response from our national service manager.

                          "Phil

Spoken to agent and the unit has been adjusted and is ready for customers collection. Unfortunately agent did not contact the consumer to advise him that unit is ready. Unit was received on 24/10"

Let me know how you go.

There is no danger, but its not necessary. You really only need to clear-water backflush at the end of each days use, then use espresso cleaner every 2kgs or so, or when the "clean me" alert is displayed.

                            Cheers, Phil

                              Hi Phil
Once again thanks for your help bud but I have to get something off my chest about these guys

                              1. When I rang this Monday they hadnt touch it yet. Been there for a week .

                              2. The only reason I got a call from them was because your company followed them up,  the reason they gave me  for taking so long was  "we had to wait for Breville to send us a blind filter because we didnt have one".... so they couldnt buy one down the road for $12, mind you  this is a authorized service center ?   Oh and they forgot to ring me to tell me it was ready ????????????????

                              3. I was rudely confronted by the guy behind the counter with
"Are you the one who complained about us on the net ?
Followed by "We didnt have it for 2 weeks "
I kindly reminded him that in working terms he was 36 hours short of 2 weeks.

                              4. He then presented me with my machine covered with coffee stains and water marks all over it, it was spotless when I dropped it off.

                              5. I asked if he adjusted the OPV to 9 bar and he looked at me and rudely said "NO, WE ADJUSTED TO 10 BAR!!!!"

                              6. Here is the one that broke my patience and made me go through the roof, I then asked him if he fixed the problem of the 2 cup portafilter popping off during a brew ? His first response (rolling his eyes up ) was " thats why we had to turn the pressure down from 13 bar to 10"
I replied " you are joking arent you ? "
He  replied with " any way you dont leave the porter-filter handle in at 6 o,clock you have to turn it right up to 2 o,clock ".
I mentioned that the 2 cup portafilter should not be becoming off if left at 6 o,clock during a brew, he then called his mechanic in to the room and he insisted I didnt know what I was talking about and proceeded to  shove the handle at 2 oclock and said "thats were its supposed to be"
So the word lock on the group head at 6 0,Clock means what ???? and if I did what he told me to do what was going to support the second cup as one of the spouts over hung the drip tray.
I just felt by what they had said when  I first dropped off the machine and  what they are now  saying  just simply is  insulting my intelligence  and I took the machine and walked out.

I also rang you today and left  a message .
The machine is currently at your other recommended repairer Adelaide service center.

                              Cheers Angelo
