    Hi JAFO

Thats the correct approach. The TAMPED coffee should sit 6-7mm below the top edge of the coffee basket. Use the cap on the top of the tamper supplied as a guide to this depth.

Once the dose is set, just adjust the grind size until you get espresso dropping no sooner than 10secs and not after 14secs. Use the shot clock as a guide. Hold the dose constant & only adjust grind.

    Cheers, Phil
Thanks for your reply Phil. Will have another play around tonight........

10bar is the maximum you should see with a blind filter. If you get in contact with Breville USA customer support & ask for Kenji, tell him you were speaking to me & need your machine swapped for a machine with a calibrated OPV theyll look after you. I believe they will ship you a unit out the same day. PF popping out is generally only an issue for the first few uses. Just make sure you push it just a bit past the lock position to ensure very positive engagement.

      Hi Phil and Barryd,

I already ordered a 58mm blind filter for checking the OPV settings made by the production line. I still have confidence that Breville should have the capability to control the product quality assurance. I will let you know the original OPV setting after I recieve the blind filter.

As I live in Taiwan, definitely I cannot ship the unit back to US for OPV adjustment or swapping the machine. So I dont mind to viod the waranty as the it cannot apply to my unit for sure.

Since I am with some technical background and working for a silion chip company, I think I can handle by myself to adjust the OPV. If Phil can send me an instruction note for adjusting the OPV, that will be very appreciated. Phil if you can do it, please let me know how can I contact you privately. Thanks

      Regards,

has there been any updates as to when a bottomless PF will be available? Can some tell me why my pour starts off pouring smooth and even then after about 12 secs it starts to splutter out of the PF?

          Howdy Tony,

Assuming your brew pressure isnt wildly over the top, it could be any of or a combo of underdose, stale coffee and/or chanelling.

              Hi Pavoniboy,

Did you buy this one from coffeeparts? Thanks

Sorry for the somewhat slow reply - yes this is the one. I see you have already ordered a blind filter now. If it was this one you ordered, yes it will fit.

                Hi Chris,
brew pressure is around 8 or 9 at start of pour then slowly drops off to around 5 or 6 thats when the spluttering starts.
That Scotty in the video sure wastes some coffee dialling in his grinder.

I think it still sounds like one or more of the items I have suggested Tony.

What coffee and when was it roasted? How does your dosing technique compare?

                      Hi Guys
Need some advice from the gurus again. Ive been around to my brothers place and used his DB which is just a couple of days old.
Ive tampered correctly but for some reason when extraction takes place using the double basket filter the left hand spout delivers double the amount of coffee than the right hand spout.
This happens every single time. It has me scratching my head..... help.
                      Thanks in advance.

Could be several things, but check the obvious first... is the machine sitting perfectly level on the bench? If the bench slopes, the pours will favor the lower side.

Well, speaking of spouts... has anyone noticed their spouts are cold? Not cold exactly, but not as hot as the PF body for sure. I dont think the stainless steel transfers the heat well via the threads on the spout. On my BDB, the PF body gets too hot to touch, but even after sitting, locked in place for a long while on a fully warmed up machine, the spouts are just "warm".  This is kind of goes against the reason for having a heavy "heat-sink" of a portafilter. My extraction is loosing heat as the cooler spouts draw heat out of the shot. And the spouts are a substantial piece of stainless themselves, and seems they could cool down the coffee quite a little bit. So now I know to run some water through the PF just before I load the basket - to heat the spouts. Rather not have to do that every time. Never experienced that on a brass PF and spouts. Just sayin.

As Rod mentions, its gravity working against you. The machine needs to sit dead level if you want the coffee to come out the spouts equally.

Thanks for the reply guys , but the machine is level.
