Heres 2 retailers in Brisbane who have BES900 Dual Boilers in stock. Id still call first to check its not just "computer" stock.

        Hi All,

Been a while since Ive checked the forum. Been happy with my BDB - been working away, producing pretty good shots from fresh coffee.

Just wondering if I should bother getting the pressure brought down to 9 bar?

You can drop the pressure to 9 during extraction by opening the hot water valve a little, to see if you can notice any difference.

Will give this a go and see if I can notice much of a difference. Have you done the pressure reset? If so, did you notice a difference?

I would. Why not have the brew pressure set to what it is supposed to be?

                  Cheers

near as i can tell, pressure has far less effect on the quality of the espresso as temperature and grind quality. my bdb had the high-pressure OPV issue, and it was still the best espresso ive ever made, compared to the old single boiler Saeco.

thats not to say it shouldnt be right though. why not have everything in your favor, even the little things?

i now have the proper one... but i havent been home to try it yet.

Hi - new owner (BES900 & BCG800) and new poster here.  Thanks for all the information which has got me from total beginner just a week ago to somewhere close.  The things I have learned from here which have helped me progress:

                      * Fresh roasted beans (using 8 Jan roasted Ethiopian from Coffesnobs)
                      * Shim kit for BCG800 - using 1 thick & 3 x thin
                      * First drops after 11 - 14 seconds (around 11 or 12) by experimenting with dose and adjusting fineness of grind

Im getting quite a flavoursome cup of coffee but I remain concerned about:

                      * Pressure reaches 7 Bar max and Im sometimes losing some fluid from somewhere at the back of the portafilter.  My earliest efforts were not getting the pressure guage off zero so Im improving ;-)
                      * Blonding seems to occur after about 18 - 20 sec.  Dont know if this matters?

I have the sense that my grind is not yet fine enough and that I havent quite got the dose exactly correct.  Re the grind my latest effort is finest setting while using 1 thick + 3 thin shims.

I would be delighted to hear your suggestions particularly about the fluid loss and grinding.  Thanks for your help

You are working in the right direction to reach the best condition for great shots.

                        Thanks

                            thanks guys,

                            will get it done.

RE: opening water valve - that doesnt seem to work - just cuts off the shot.

you only open the water tap about 1mm the slightess opening will drop the pressure the more you open the more pressure it drops I think.
