Hi All, Have just received a BES900 and am trying to get it working again. I've replaced all the leaking sensor and hose o rings I could access from the top of the machine. It reaches temp of 93deg okay, but once you turn it off it steams excessively from the overflow hoses which flow down into the back left of the drip tray. Has anyone encountered this before? Are there o rings underneath the boilers which may need replacement, or an over pressure valve?

I'd say you'll need to either replace or service the ball valve. Getting the plastic handle cover off is a bit tricky, I slip two butter knives in where the metal part of the handle meets the plastic cover. I use these to pop the clips of the plastic nearest the metal part then pull the plastic part out away from the machine.

Has anyone here dealt with the steam handle becoming quite stiff when the machine is warm? It's only just started happening and I haven't had time to pull the top off and have a look but seems like a strange problem...I did notice a few drips of water coming from the steam handle also.

Once the machine cools down the handle then seems to operate normally???

Any ideas before I pull the machine apart....again....

Loving the upgraded pump and opv, have spent the last few days with the top sitting loose to adjust the opv. I initially just put the blind filter in and turned back the adjusting screw until the front gauge rear 10.5-11bar, but this meant it seemed slow to build pressure when pouring a coffee, so i've been gradually increasing it with each cup.

I haven't bothered to confirm the right way of doing this, I know that years ago people were borrowing a portafilter with a gauge that was tapped into it but I'm happy to just tinker .

Good thing is that when I do eventually replace this with a BES920, my exhaustive spare parts collection will still be good to use!

Welp after putting up with all manner of clanging and buzzing from the solenoid, a pump that would sometimes take 30secs to activate (no preinfusion), a badly leaking steam ball valve and the occasional cup with no Crema.. it was time for action.. wellz the action had been taken last year to buy a replacement solenoid and an upgraded brass ulka with brass opv from eBay, the plan for the ball valve was to swap the washers.

The pump was an easy swap, I had to snip off the pump outlet tube to remove the factory sealing arrangement and then solenoid swapped easy enough, though the solenoid was badly dirty on the waste tubing and one of the little ferrules for the solenoid inlets was very much affected by build up.. the ball valve washer flip didn't go smoothly and I had to retrieve an old valve from my spare parts and resort to just flipping the washer on the removable section of the valve, as the inner washer on either valve would not let out without being destroyed.

A leak test and a rough tune on the opv and I'm back in action, although now that the valve is fixed I hear a leak in the machine.. so will open at the weekend and investigate.

My bes900 has been thru about 5 or 6 such events with most of the main components being swapped out, I think the electronics, body, most pipework and the steam pump and steam boiler are all that remain original.. it's a trooper but I think next time I see a bes920 on special around the $6-800 mark I will grab one unless someone can convince me it's worth spending to the next level...

The waste pipework is sticky and disgusting, the oils must permeate thru the walls of it...

please guide me to order and buy code ""SP0023063 (BES920/03.4A) Group Collar Version A - PDC 1522 <- this is the metal collar and accepts the two piece inserts above, costs about $30 from Breville Aus.""

Thanks for that, I’m not really keen on those baskets but read the ridgeless baskets from IMS may work well. I’ve had a look at the 9.5gm IMS the Single ridgeless does anyone have experience with that and if it fits well in the breville portafiller?

Decent Espresso sell a 10g basket. Not sure how good it is or if you can use 10g.

VST sell a 7g basket, but you'll need a 41mm tamper and they're brutally unforgiving if your puck isn't perfect.

I normally use around 12.5gms. If people are using 14gms, that is getting close to the double basket of 18 or so grams might as well use the double? I was hoping to find a basket that I can comfortably use even less gms with some success?

Single baskets are very hit and miss. Generally they need quite a high dose for consistency. Can't remember what people use in the stock one but it's much more than half the double. Something like 14g from memory. It will be earlier in this thread somewhere.

Hey, I like pulling single shots from the DB but wouldn’t mind investing in a better single basket than the stock basket that helps with extraction and consistency? Can anyone recommend a single basket for it? Cheers

    Group head seal: https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/cafel...l-blue-silicon

    Pump: https://www.jetblackespresso.com.au/...ibration-pump/

RS Components part numbers (not 100% sure but I think they're the same for the 900)
    BES920 small Silicone O rings (3.68mm ID, 9/32in OD)
    527-9756

    BES920 large Silicone O rings (6.07mm ID, 9.52mm / 3/8in OD)
    527-9784

    BES920 steam valve stem Viton O ring (4.47mm ID, 7.93mm / 5/16in OD)
    129-000

    Optional:
Upgrade OPV to brass (you should replace it when you do the pump whether or not you get a Breville plastic one or a brass one)

    https://www.jetblackespresso.com.au/...pansion-valve/

You'll also need a 4mm probe seal to 1/8 BSPT adaptor and some liquid thread seal tape, possible also a small cable tie or hose clamp.

    Hey guys,

I think my BES900 is on its last legs. It's been a great machine I've had it since it came out! Nearly 10 years? I had it repaired once under warranty due to a solenoid issue.

Its coped a hammering during covid and work from home. But it's still chugging away.

Issues I've seen of late... Most of these issues I've gotten away with turning off for about an hour and turn back on.

    - Gurgling. No coffee shot coming out
    - Has risen to 95c on the odd occasion. Fix is either off for 1 hour and trigger hot water to bring the temp down.
    - Pump/pressure seems to have dropped slightly
    - I have to replace the plastic thing below the group head, That broke to bits years ago. This means I have to swing the portafilter all the way to right.

Just seeking advice on what parts I should order to give it a good service?

    My thoughts are:
    - Group head Seal
    - Pump
    - O rings? If so which ones?
    - Gaskets?

Anything else? And where would you buy these parts from?

    Cheers
    Troy
