If you're in no rush and don't mind second hand, Graciebjj, they pop up on here reasonably often for a good price - or else, the usual auction/bargain sites too

You probably also need to include around 4-500 for a grinder too if you don't have a good one right now.

i would buy a em6910 over any breville machine below the double boiler (bes900). the em7000 is the new model and no doubt better but is more expensive and the em6910 will do the job. it has twin thermblock so you can steam at the same time as extracting.

up until recently i was using the 0480 grinder as well with mine but after months of frustrations at the amount of mess it makes and the large gaps between each notch on the grind settings, i forked out for a smart grinder. the grind isn't a lot better but the cleanliness is worth the purchase price alone, and the grind settings are much closer together.

    Kid.
The main differences between the BES860 & BES840 aside from the grinder are that the BES840 has a PID controlled stainless steel thermocoil & a Pre Infusion Function. The BES860 has 'PreBrew'?

The PID allows more precise control of brewing temperature. Low pressure pre-infusion gently expand grinds for an even extraction according to Brevilles own description.

This video shows inside the Stainless Steel Thermocoil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCdhfNd5GK0

These functions are normally only found on machines twice the price.

The breville also comes with its own metal base tamper which means you don't need to spend extra for one.

Most sellers offer up to a 5 year warranty on the Breville for very little extra.

Warm up time will be quicker than a boiler machine. For the price it offers alot. Hard bargaining with retailers will no doubt bring the price down also.

The comments that are sometimes made on the resale value of 'appliance' machines can't be fairly applied yet to this machine as it hasn't been around long enough.

I'm thinking, wait till I get my tax return and see if I can talk my way into a better machine. Maybe a second hand good cond gaggia? I really want a Silvia but I dont see that happening (even at second hand price). Hmmm, somebody take pity on me and sell me an awesome machine at a low price :P
