You won't be able to taste the difference between 2 hx machines in your price range so just get the one which is most practical, looks good and is a good price. You'll probably end up upgrading in a years time anyway. I'd spend more time researching your grinder.

I'd debate that. My instincts tell me that the majority here with HX machines purchase them with the intention of far longer than a year and that in general, they do hold onto them.Originally posted by Wynton87 View PostYou'll probably end up upgrading in a years time anyway......

That'll teach me to post without my glasses (pretty goddamn embarrassing at 23 but what can you do?)Originally posted by Emille View PostHaha, Dragunov, "she" is not a she, I am a he!
I am slowly changing my mind, the lever machines look a lot easier.
Temp surfing is something I really do not want to do.
Grinder is a separate budget.. i think 5-700 for a grinder should be fair.
When you say lever, do you mean levers instead of switches or an actual lever (full-manual) machine?
I'm struggling to see the difference between levers and switches myself but it's your choice lol...
With your budget and a separate wad for a grinder temp-surfing isn't something you need to worry about.

i would agree with Chris also, i had my machine for 6 years or so before upgrading to a dual boiler machine.
These machines are not cheap and are a major purchase for the majority of people but they repay their owners every time a coffee is made

Could I distract you with a tale of a classmate who was trimming his short and curlies in RE and snipped his nadgers?Originally posted by Barry O'Speedwagon View PostThat shaving story suggests that you're not an easy bloke to embarrass.
I guarantee it's more worthy of remembering >.<

Absolutely, I do not want to have to upgrade in a year, 3-4 years at a minimum.
As for the difference between levers and switches (and I don't mean a lever machine!), switches were not really the issue with the Nemox. The Nemox was a single boiler. So do pull a shot, you flicked a switch and then your shot was brewed, then you flicked it off again, when you wanted steam, you had to flick another switch which then raised the temperature of the boiler to steam. Once it was ready, you had to purge the wand and then you could steam. When you wanted to make another shot, you had to turn off the steam, purcge again and wait for the temperature to stabilise. It was just so painful!
Basically I want a machines, where I can pull a shot and then start steaming immediately without having to wait for it to heat up and pull a shot without having to wait for it to cool down. and not flick a switch a million times in between.
Flicking a leaver to start a brew and then flicking it again to stop is not a worry. As for the difference, the lever just seems more cool!

The Lelit PL60T Dual Boiler slots into your price range at around $1600 - Lelit P60T V2 | Talk CoffeeOriginally posted by Talk_Coffee View PostI suspect you might be looking for simultaneous steam and shot? You don't have to have a dual boiler machine for this as HX machines do this as well. There are many heat exchanger (HX) machines which will also suit and will be within budget.
Surprised this wasn't included in your recommendations Chris?
