    So I took the plunge...

And bought a Red BES920 here in the US.

The added functionality is nice. While it is priced $100 over the BES900, the warranty is now 2 years instead of 1 here in the US. As it should be!

Also- the basket that came with the 920 is much different than the 900. No tapering and more holes. So all my notes on grind settings and doses are out. The new double basket is heavier and looks a LOT like a VST basket. Is that what you're seeing in Australia? Also the portafilter seems different in a minor way, there's a level spot just before the basket that might be a must have for the group head.

I'm sure the old basket would work fine, maybe I'll switch them out tomorrow and see.

Seems to be a quiet thread here, so I'm hoping that means all is going smoothly.

Well the 920 is now on the USA site.

    the Dual Boiler

Oddly enough it hasn't replaced the BES900XL, rather it lists at another $100 with added features including a 2 year limited warranty. They're both listed at 1700 Watts, for some reason I thought they were 1800.

    BES900 Water Issue

Hi Barry, I may be experiencing one of the issues you refer to here - my BES900 has suddenly developed a problem when pouring the shot where the water pressure and volume has reduced significantly. I was worried it was the pump however reading your comment it gave me hope it's just an o-ring degradation. When I pour it now flows slowly with about 3 bar of pressure and theres a "bubbling" sound afterwards. Does this sound similar to the issue with the o-ring? If so can I fix it or do I need to take it in for repair?

    Cheers
    Graeme

It is expected to be out by Xmas at the same price as the 900.

Thank you for the reply iampivot. I believe that is a bit longer than a 900's shot clock.

The shot clock on my 920 stays on for ten seconds after a brew cycle.

That's good to know, I was going to order the BES900 naked portafilter from Breville assuming it would fit the 920. I did contact them for the "coming soon" date for the new one and their response was...

"Unfortunately there is no naked porta filter for this model at this stage".

The biggest difference is the new engineered Breville metal dosing tool it is fantastic once you ground the coffee and tamp down you put it in the basket and swivel around it has a perfect depth cutout which scoops up the excess coffee which you disgard. I used it with my new Breville naked portafilter which I never used before fresh beans and I got a perfect stream of coffee first time I could not believe it perfect pour and time and no sticky puck.
Just to clarify, did you use the BES920 with the naked handle?

I just picked a BES920 up here in the UK. The naked handle that I had from my BES900 does not fit the machine.

This thread helped me heaps so thought I would add my recent experience.

I've confirmed with Breville and it seems the grinder promotion is only for the BES920, and also it's an in-store promotion so basically any store selling the BES920 should be able to provide it. With that information in hand I went to Myer and asked them to price match the $1199 offer, and also explained about the grinder promotion. After a bit of fiddling around they approved everything so I just walked out the door with the BES920 + Smart Grinder + 5 Years Extended Warranty all for $1249.

Went into Myer wanting the BES920, guy would do it at $1198, but wouldn't include the grinder. Called HN, said they'd do it, so left and walked away with the BES920 + Smart Grinder for $1198 + $186 for 5 year replacement warranty

Seems like not many know of the grinder redemption offer...feel sorry for those that buy the BES900/920 and don't get a grinder!

The sales guy started on the reccomened retail price and as I rolled my eyes he got it. I told him that we forum people stayed in contact and he got it.

He , in the end said that they would rather sell one to me rather than Hardley Normal get the sale. He and the crew were ok.

They fake it , but keep at it.

I am so happy and excited, I am now roasting and making great coffee, I who am a stay at home sort of guy.

My roasts are holy bloody shit, who let this guy loose. I am getting there.

For those that got the grinder with bes920, did it come in the same package (special two package deal) or two separate boxes?
