So that will be a testable hypothesis, great. If the o-ring is damaged then at least I can get it changed and test again. Thankyou for your help

Hi, I've only given her it's first tablet last week when it started to not work. Since I've had it it has only told me to clean cycle twice. The first times i used a vinegar solution recommended on the internet due to no tablets and the second time was with a tablet.
I assume you mean the clean cycle function for back flush?
If you could send me a link that shows you how to strip clean and re assemble I'd appreciate it!
thanks, dan

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I live in Brazil so its so hard to find good beans (you better believe it! brazil has the worse coffee! They just don't get it) and im out at the moment. When I get some Ill defintiely try your sugestion and let you know the results. So 17g is the norm? Is the portafiller basket a standard size and shape?

do you backflush the machine daily (or every few days)?
has it had a full clean since you've had it?
even with regular water backflush, chemical backflush and a monthly chemical/ descale/ soak the shower head and baskets still get clogged
strip, soak, clean and re-assemble

that does sound like the o-ring problem though- or maybe the opv malfunctioning.

Hi.
First question is what's changed ? I'm going to guess that the beans are diff or older.
How much are you dosing, without the basket and pf handle.
I would start by doing the following. 17g coffee. Grind, tamp pour. Check time and check shot volume.
If the pour its slow then back your grinder out.

Breville BES900XL was making ristretto, now restricted flow!
Hi,
I had been make coffee for about 3 months. Got the settings perfect (for me). So, I came to my machine and made a coffee and it’s terrible. It is very restricted flow, takes over a minute to come out and tastes very very bad (obviously)
My original settings were:
• Breville BES900 expresso maker
• Breville BCG800XL coffee grinder
• 93 degC
• 25s pour, from when coffee begins purging (ie. +7seconds in total)
• Using Breville grinder on second finest grind setting.
• 220g coffee (but this includes portafilla and a two-cup, single-walled basket)
• consistent firm tamp.
• 8-9 bar
• gives approx 40ml shot.
So now I get, with all previous settings:
• if nothing a trickle, if.
• 9-10 bars.
• (makes the same volume shot in well over 1 min)
Without coffee in the portafiller the coffee flows as normal.
Moving the grinder well back into the expresso grind returns full flow but the taste isn't at all the same. Does anyone have any ideas?
thanks!Tags: None
