  • Rancilio silvia V3 PID Kit local?

    Hi

wondering if any sponsers have this kit for sale within australia? or if anyone knows where i can get one cheap, coz on ebay they are 200$ is that normal?

Jet Black Espresso does them. I've been in touch withthem as Im planing on getting one in the near future now that my warranty is done. The Auber hits cost about that. Apparently you can get DIY kits foir a fair bit less, but I believe you need a fair bit of technical nous to install them.

The Auber kits come with installation videos etc and are apparently a doddle to fit.

agree... the instructions that comes with the Auber kit is a piece of cake to install without much need of technical know how needed except for knowing enough on how to use a screw driver and able to follow pictured instructions

It took me less than 2hours to do the whole thing myself as I also took my time slowly doing it...

not saying buying from overseas is not a good idea, but with the current exchange rate, I rather pay the slightly extra and get it local delivered to your door quicker and should anything goes wrong, can get a quick replacement... the savings are not worth the hassle at the moment...

          Kit installed!

Worked first try which made me happy. Took me a bit over an hour I reckon. Instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Now I just need a day to play around with the temp setting a bit and see where the sweet spot is on my machine. Started off with a setting of 106. Think I might have noted a slight bitterness in this mornings coffee. If I have read things right that might mean my temp is slightly too high.

I've found this heavily depends on the bean. My original was 106, but I reduced this quite a bit for one particular bean I had at the time. I've since changed my standard bean, and I'm back to 106.

Prepare to spend a lot of time experimenting, and don't change it too much at a time, its quite a fine adjustment!

I'm on 106 at the moment. I will admit that this mornings tamp was a little on the heavy side and I ended up with a slight ristretto pour. I'll have to try and nail the dose and tamp for a few pulls and do some comparisons.

Am I right though in that higher temps will introduce overextraction causing bitterness and low temps will cause under extraction and give more fruity characters and make the coffee weaker?

I just get the burnt toast taste if I have it too high...
