I replaced my hex nut with a countersunk screw at the last gasket change, and it seems to have totally eliminated the occasional bit of channelling that I used to get. I went to my local specialist nut&bolt shop, and bought a M5x12mm countersunk stainless bolt. Cost 30c. 10 seconds with in the drill press (10mm bit I think) had a nice recess in the dispersal washer, and 5 seconds in the vice had the right indent pressed into the shower screen. You honestly couldn't tell it wasn't manufactured that way, and cost 30c....

I'm not sure it's the holy grail, but it might be worth doing if you're pulling the screen out anyway. Don't know how much the kits cost, but it's an easy job if you have a vice (and probably impossible if you don't)

Hi okitoki, I'm a bit of a beginner how slight should the hex indent be, I think I might be overdosing I would guess mine is about 2 to 2.5mm ??

I think Caden did the mod on his Silvia before and his feedback was that it didnt make much different for him except that it gives you a pretty looking puck.

Yeah I agree with okitoki, a slight dent on the puck is a good indicator for me. I've just read on other threads that the hex nut might cause channeling, so to reduce that risk I just replaced it anyway. Good luck on the upgrade!

Cheers for the ideas guys. I think I will just go with the kit in the end. Seems less hassle that way. Did any of you notice a difference from going to the flat shower screen mod? I can't even do the 5c coin test properly with the stupid hex screw at the moment...

    Hi Thom,

Get the the kit , its not expensive and saves the risk of you damaging any of the original parts by trying to modify them, which would then need to be replaced anyway,

I got a flat head screw and with an oversized drill I machined out a part of the metal "washer".
When I screw it in, the shower screen opens inside into the washer and is pretty much flush
