  • I have been quoted $600 (+$80) from Bravo to repair my BES920.. it apparently has a hole in the steam boiler and a damanged triac assay. That plus other consumables.

What do you think? I am thinking I might not and use it to salvage some spares and potentially buy a new or refurbished machine.

Meanwhile, I've contacted Breville to ask if they have an extended warranty on the steam boiler or triac assay. Don't love my chances.

So.. do I stick with a 920 or find another dual boiler to upgrade to?

here's the breakdown. I'm not unhappy with the quote (some of it is a bit exaggerated) but I am a bit shocked it's this high for a repair. I'm questioning myself if I should proceed or just find a new machine with warranty.

      • Unsurprisingly, Breville didn't take up the hint to help me out.

So I guess my thinking is that a repair at this point is not a great idea, but I should instead potentially look for a new machine with warranty.

        • There's no way that repair is economically viable. They can be bought for $800-$1,000 on special quite regularly...back before COVID they were even much less than that.

          When was the machine purchased?

          • Boxing Day sales 2016.

One issue is that it doesn't look like Breville sells these standalone anymore?

            • Ah ok, over 4 years old is probably too old to get Breville to warrant it.

As for availability, they always seem to pop up on sale every few months and then dissapear again. Maybe Breville only sell them on promotion? Really not sure.

              • They stop and start selling them individually for some reason. They'll do it again at some point in the next few months.

                • Looking for some enthused guidance here please...

I posted some weeks back re: hesitating shots on my BES920. Since then I went ahead (despite my gut feelings) and changed my old pump+OPV for new ones and still no difference to 'lack of sufficient pressure' and hesitation during extraction. Changing of pump+OPV came after research and having asked people here for advice on the problem. The machine still delays on pre-infusion and fails to sit steady on the pressure gauge ~7-9bar during peak extraction. Machine cannot deliver the pressure for a double-basket load. At the moment, i'm unsure whether to replace the solenoid or not. I've no tech experience on the machine whatsoever. Learning as I go!

                  Thanks again.

                  • Hi dansss

Have you tried stepping up the preinfusion pump percentage - i think default is 55 or 60 % - but for the sake of pushing a couple of buttons it could be worth trying a higher figure. Here is a quick google find that may assist https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/bl...e-dual-boiler/

Thanks FNQ. I dismissed pump percentage/pressure due to the fact that mechanical parts seem to be the underlying issue of the ongoing problem here. Apart from compensating, I don't know how a digital setting would repair this long term problem (if) it be a mechanical one. Having said this, since the solenoid has never been changed, I might go with that one for now. Contemplating installing a new one this arvo.

                      • Closing the loop on my earlier query.

I was able to purchase a refurb with 6 months warranty from Bravo. They even deducted the inspection fee so the cost wasn't too bad.

And now they refurb your old machine for a fraction of the cost then resell it to the next customer they overquote and the cycle begins again.

At least you've got a solution and a working machine again.

I mentioned earlier noidle22 that I got my old one back, but it got removed because I framed it as "give me $ if you want it for next to nothing" (fair enough!). But most importantly, got a working machine so happy about that.

                      • thanks for letting us know Niko.

                            Thanks of course - done.

                        • Update: new solenoid installed last night and issue still unresolved, if not worse than prior. I'm now leaning toward the flow meter.

Has anyone any experience here on flow meters and what their function is? There's little here on the BDB thread. Ran a search and found little. This is the closest I've come so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gEK2rDkaB0

My understanding is that the flow meter is used for then volumetric settings on the 1 and 2 cup buttons. Is the issue you are having evident when you use the manual button as well as the preset ones?

My machine is similar but I think I have a blockage that intermittently causes the pressure gauge to read low.

Another thing to look at is the error log for the sensors. These are a good way of seeing what is going on with your machine and how the faults have built up over time.
