breville bes 860 using lots of water

G'day everyone been staying with my parents who own a bes 860, and as the title states seems to use too much water.
I am talking like 1.75 litres for 4 coffees, so the question is is this normal. To me this is to much as my em7000 seems to use no where near this.
Can any other ex or current users confirm there's was like this or is there something wrong.

I once had a BES860 which used a lot of water by self-purging to maintain water temperature. I had to watch the drip tray to prevent overflowing. My BES900 uses a lot less water.

thanks Barry I was thinking that the self purge it does after steaming to get the thermo block temp down was maybe the problem
