  • Nemox opera cracked head

So I picked up the worst deal ever and got a combi for nicks on gumtree with a cracked head as pictured.

Is it repairable or do I just buy another, I guess from jetblack
If I replace it can I get a 58mm update or just the same 57mm

    Thanks in advance all

I would say replacement. Not sure about the 58mm upgrade but if the boiler is the same it would be a worthwhile upgrade, will give more options of baskets etc. You will obviously need a new PF.

Not really practical to repair I would say....

If anyone has new spares for this unit it will definitely be Charlie at JetBlack...

One of these should go on:

        MC052:Lelit Group Collar

You'll also need a group seal by the look of it:
        MC047:Lelit Group Head Seal

Don't get hung up on 57 v 58 group heads. It makes no difference to the espresso,

58mm lets me uses all my existing baskets if it was not to much hassle to retrofit/cost

Can you what the thermostat is from the model plate or is a internal picture better. As there is a better one to fit to these, Yes?

I will order parts with answer

          thanks jimbo

You can fit a higher temp steam thermostat (like the Sylvia's have) to give you more steam oomph. Or fit a PID?

It would be interesting to know if it is just the collar/PF that is the different between the 57/58 groups.

            Cheers

I can't tell from the serial whether this machine has a 120 degree steam thermostat. But as far as I am aware, 140 degree thermostats were not installed on these earlier machines. (Lelit introduced the hotter thermostat to their range in mid 2011).

I have the same machine (Nemox Cafe Del Opera), its about 8 years old, the original steam thermostat is lower temp one. From memory the temp is visible on the thermostat so you can confirm which one is fitted by looking.

Charlie, out of curiosity, is it just the collar/PF that differs between the 57/58mm groups?

                Cheers

It's not just the collar that differs.

                    Has the ukla EK pump

Otherwise looks really clean especially compared to the L4 im doing as well (that sat in a garage for 6 years)

Have read the steam may need washers and other stuff at some point do I get those parts at the same time as well?

As long as there are no leaks with the boiler; I would change the o-rings for the steam valve and steam arm with the new group head colar and gasket.

Remember to install the brass washers to assist limiting damage to the colar and group handle. Good luck. These machines take a real beating to kill.

The shower screen is probably not needed unless it is damaged. It is single layer stainless so easy to clean?

The other item you might need is a new needle valve for the steam tap if yours is leaking. Or you could try filing a bit off the collar of the needle valve.

Does your steam wand have the steam tip on the side to "enhance" the foam? I had this one and cut it at the side hole to make a normal style tip. It works well.

                          Cheers

                            JWILL,
                            How your machine turn out?

Did you ever replace the steam wand with the Lelit version? If so, was it very hard to swap out?
Also, did you replace the cracked head with the 58?

I have the same Nemox machine and forever have hated the supplied wand. Also, I too had a cracked head and was an easy fix. Wish I had heard of a possible larger, more common replacement at the time, better late than never.
