Yes it is a no no. You will need to dry them out carefully in a low temp oven for 30 minutes should solve the problem. Test with a multi-meter should indicate if it is still grounded and will need to dry out some more.

Can you damage an element from descaling
Hi All,
I have been having trouble with my Simonelli Oscar so I stripped her down for a general clean. I gave the boiler a good descale soak and I chucked the element in the bucket without thought for the contacts. On putting the jigsaw back together it is tripping the power circuits. I will go through the isolation process again tomorrow but it appears that the element is whats tripping the safety switch.
Is what I did an obvious no no? Are elements prone to shorting out. The integrity of the element is still intact from what I can see.
Any comments / thoughts /
