  • Problems after changing group seal on EM6900R

I have recently replaced the group seal in my em6900r. Now if the portafilter isnt all the way over to the right and the dosing isnt perfect the portafilter leaks, not a great deal but enough to be annoying.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it possible that the new group seal is slightly thinner than the origanl fittment?

Both the old and new seals were of the blue variety, the origanl seal had a chank blow out hence the need for a replacement.

This is caused by the Group coming away from the Thermoblock... Call Sunbeam.. you need a new machine... and you should get upgraded to the 6910

          Boldor,

I had a similar problem when I had my 6900. When the tech changed over the seal, he couldnt get the group collar to stay connected with the thermoblck hence the change to the 6910.

          Contact Sunbeam

Use it to death!!! It will break... the EM6900 has a weekness in the Screws holding the Group and Thermoblock together,... overtime they "strip" and the group starts to drop, which causes the busted seals or, just leaks around the group collar.

The EM6910 has a larger screw holding the Group and Thermoblock together.... and has a much better steam function...

mmm, not sure that the group/thermoblock problem is what im experienceing. With a problem like that the leak would /should be clear water. Mine is coffee stained so it is still coming from between the portafilter/group seal/group area, not thermoblock/group area.

              However I could be wrong...

The first replacement seal I received was faulty. It had a crease in the silicon/rubber/plastic whatever its made of.

                Dennis,

Carefully insert the porta filter and then take the EM6900 everywhere you go using it as a step ladder, car jack, anvil, diving board etc, it shouldnt take too long to seperate the group from the thermoblock.....then you can shoot for the 6910!

                Boldor,

This is a three way valve machine,
Unless you have recently backflushed with detergent [ie within last 5 days] I would expect the water anywhere in the brew path to have some coffee staining.

Well my machine is waiting to be picked up and sent to Brisbane for repair...

This probably means I wont be getting upgraded.... :-?

Thankfully I do have a backup machine, so I wont be going without while I wait for an outcome...

I have just changed the seal on my EM6900. My portafilter does go all the way over to the right and cant go over any further and does not seem a tight fit as the old seal. I have had my machine 18 months. It is too late to send it back.

If it still seals, then dont sweat it. Mine started leaking all over the place. My group seal was only 6 months old.

So if its not leaking anywhere you should still be ok.

18 Months for a seal is pretty good, sunbeam give them a life span of about 12 months.

Boldor, what was the actual outcome in the end for your machine regarding this thread?

I think Sunbeam have found a fix when it happens to older machines and are repairing instead of replacing...
