  • Recommendation for mid-range machine

    Hello
I am looking at upgrading from my breville 800es and wondering what recommendation the people here would have for me.
I have heard good things about gaggia and rancilio but are there any other good brands?
    Thankyou

    1. What do you like about your current machine?
    2. What don't you like about it?
    3. What else (if anything) do you want to achieve via your upgrade?
    4. Which grinder do you have?
    4. How much do you want to spend on your upgrade?

      1. I like that it's not instant coffee. And the ball steam wand
2.I don't like the small basket, small steam wand, and not able to change the pressure of the steam.
      3. I want to make stronger coffees or make more than one coffee at a time and have a better steam wand.
4.I'm using a breville bcg450 grinder that I have modified to grind finer
      5. I would prefer to buy a second hand machine and spend under 600

You'll need a new grinder as well then. If you're patient you could keep your eyes on the for sale section here on the forum as you might be able to pick up something like a V2 or 3 Silvia and Rocky grinder for around $600. Or maybe a Breville BES900 or 920.

If you can't wait and want something right now then grab a Sunbeam PU6910 package. It's the EM6910 machine and EM0450 grinder packaged together. It's available on eBay for about $550-$600.

Agree with the suggestions of Breville Dual Boiler, Rancilio Silvia or Dual Thermoblock sunbeam. The Sunbeam would most likely be the only option for new, but should be able to get the others as good working order pre-owned. Note that the useage of the breville and sunbeam are similar as appliance grade machines. The Silvia is considerably more hands on.
