    Thanks for the advice.
I have been lurking for a while-
I recently had another issue with the 860- the pump did not stop at 60 mls and continued endlessly or until the water ran out. (Never let it go that far. )
I read descaling worked for this issue and I used part vinegar and part water.
It worked for one pull and then the issue arose.
I’ve taken the plunge and got the 870.
I’m looking forward to learning this machine. @WarrenK I took your advice and extended the warranty.

bes870 is better. it has PID and hot water spout as well as other minor improvements over 860.

I can't help you on the BES860 as I have never used or seen it. I can confirm as a 3 year user of the BES870 that extended warranty is essential. Good luck.

    started a topic Breville BES860 vs 870.

    Breville BES860 vs 870.

Greetings all, I'm Cameron from Newcastle NSW.
    This is my first post.
I've been reading with interest the discussions surrounding the entry level quick grind and brew machines.
I had the fortunate find of picking up a boxed Bes860 for $30 unused.
I had heart failure the other morning when the grinder jammed and I was about to buy a bes870.
I then realized it was the beans and we're all sorted now.
I tried to find the upgrades the 870 over the 860 and found some vague mention of the grinder.
I expect this machine won't last forever- and I love the speed, pseudo control and experimentation the 860 machine offers.
I expect to upgrade with extended warranty to the 870. Just wondering the differences.
    Thanks in advance.
