    Good one dsgfh ,

The waiting must have been hard to take ,

    Mal.
Took more time trying to diagnose & repair myself... until I realised it had earthed itself & shipped it of for a pro to deal with it quick smart. Alan only had it since late Monday arvo, so Im pretty happy. Sure as hell beat the 3 week turnaround from Lygon last time I had a "professional" service it.

Dialled in the grinder again after 5 days of french press, poured a latte for the missus only to discover the milk had gone rancid while the sparky was here today putting in a safety switch & pulling out our dead stove.

Crisis averted now... although I am wondering if the boss will notice if I dont turn up to his meeting tomorrow morning hehe

    Re: Quaha Napolitana overheating

I received a panicked phone call from my girlfriend one day when my napolitana would not heat up. I was grief stricken, as at the time it was only a few months old. I called Alan Frew,.. and he calmed me down, when I came to the realisation that it had to be a simple failure and easy to fix.

When I got home to try to diagnose the machine, nothing wrong!! Turns out the gf wasnt actaully switching it on,.. she was flicking on the brew switch as if it was power,.. then of course the power switch as the brew switch. It made all the right noises,.. but never got hot! FUNNY THAT! hahahaha

    dsgfh...What a RCD?
Sorry for jumping on your thread.
A residual current device, also known as a saftey switch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residual-current_device

As I understand it, an earth leakage from the boiler is the most likely cause

Unless both thermostats have failed at once--probably unlikely--sounds like the element has gone then.

    Napolitana Earth Leakage

Im afraid its worse that I first thought. Our house doesnt have a safety switch, but before testing any further Ive gone out & got myself a portable RCD. Unfortunately plugging it in trips the RCD. A little testing shows it only happens when the elements connected.

    So... the question becomes:
    New boiler time?
    New machine time?

Either way, its french press time this week.

Phyatboy, no need to remove the boiler. It could be the thermostat, or it could be the heating element. Does the boiler heat up at all? For brewing? For steaming?

Well Im a happy camper. Thermostat is sitting on my desk & if it wasnt for a meeting with a client this arvo Id be out the door & fitting it. With service/parts availability like that Id say the Napolitana still has life in her yet. Just a shame I cant justify an upgrade to the ministry of finance now. I reckon with the splitting headache shes had for the last 3 days I could have gotten just about anything past her.
