  • Gaggia Classic filter basket

    Hi All,

I recently bought a 2nd hand Gaggia Classic and started making some nice coffee .

My Wife decided to have a go when I wasn't home and dumped the filter basket out into the trash...
She then proceeded to fill the portafilter without a basket and explode coffee allover the kitchen haha.

I ordered this replacement from coffee parts, but I'm having a hard time getting a decent pull.

Is the replacement I ordered the same as the original?

I've tried changing my grinder settings to get anything decent but without luck.

    Thanks.

    G'day mate...

Given that this is a Ridged Basket, you have to make sure that when you dose it, that the resulting tamp ends up above that ridge, otherwise you're just tamping against the ridge and not the coffee. A ridgeless basket would be easier to use and if you got an 18-20g one, then you would end up with really rich and sumptuous shots...

    Mal.

I hate the ridge. It makes the basket too tight. Then if you pull the spring, the basket sticks to the gasket and fall off only when you look to see where it is.

The cup of filterless coffee would have been a bit grainy..

At a previous job, i used to take a plunger in for the boss and I. I guess my grinds were quite fine, He made a brew one time and slammed the plunger down- exploding coffee and grinds all over office and himself.

Maybe a ploy for me to make it thereafter....

            Thanks Final,

I can't remember if the one it came with was ridged or not.

              It would have been non-ridged.
A ridged filter cant be banged out. Too tight a fit
