Hey hey! Exciting! Actually I've been hit with busy times with my study, so the purchase has been delayed a bit, doh! I'll have time to do the order in a few weeks, but I'll try to squeeze some time in before then. I just have to go through a bunch of receipts and bank transactions to work out who owes who between family members, to fund the purchase. I'll have enough there but I don't want to get it wrong! Wish I'd have got my arse in gear before the busyness hit! Anyway hopefully it'll happen soon.
I'll have a last look at the grinders before I decide, when my mind's clearer. Do you have a grinder already?

hey, wanted to ask how are you finding the machine? Did you go with the Compak grinder or switch to a macap? Just bought the same machine and looking forward to it arriving next week.Originally posted by Systemist View PostAh-ha. Ok, you guys have convinced me on the TEMD!

Perhaps look at the Macap grinders too?
Some are stepped, small, some are not, so if you prefer one over the other make sure you know which you are getting.

A PID Controller for a small single boiler machine like this increases its capability out of all proportion to the additional cost.
Allows you to tailor your shot temperature to within a degree of what ever you consider 'perfect' for a particular coffee bean.
You won't be sorry in the long run...

*nod* yeah, right. Good to hear you think it's worth it. I wondered if it would be considered unnecessary. I do want to take the art as far as I can (reasonably) on the equipment I can afford. Knowing the temp should help.
Another thought... I want to explore a lot of different beans... would it be hard to switch beans once I have the grinder dialed in for a given bean? I'm pretty sure medium roasts are my thing. Would I need to change the grind setting when I change beans?
(Hoping the grinder talk is ok in this forum, apologies if not).

Plus you know exactly what the temp of the water in the boiler is at any time -ie just after cold water is aded, etc - so you know you are making coffee at your desired temp. Makes the Lelit a very capable little single boiler

*nod*. Ok, good input. I do like the idea of having maximum control.

the PID isn't much more, crazy not to get it for the value it offers

Advice on my setup!
Hey all. Exciting time here! Putting together my first proper espresso setup, and start the coffee journey
. Advice and thoughts appreciated.
For the machine I'm considering:
Lelit PL41LEM, or
Lelit PL41TEMD
Any thoughts on the pros / cons of each? Will the PID on the TEMD give me something invaluable? Or does the LEM have something more favourable?
Any other machines I should consider? (Not wanting to pay much more).
I'm reading these machines are very good choices, especially for price to value. The aesthetic is not especially great for me. Nice enough though, and the main thing is they work well.
As for the grinder, I'm thinking,
Compak K3 Push, or
Compak K3 Touch
I see Jetblack espresso rate these very well, and I'm on a budget, so I figure these are good choices. Again, the aesthetic matters to me, and the Touch is working a bit better for me.
Any other options I could look at?
And, I forgot to add, this setup is for flat whites.
Anyway, looking forward to your thoughts
