Please help buying first espresso machine Breville 870 vs sunbeam 7100
The most important thing to get right from the get go is maintenance and treating the machine well. For the most part this means feeding the machine good water and not leaving coffee oils in the machine for a long time.
1. Backflush after every coffee making session until there are no coffee grounds in the portafilter. If you're clean it might take one or two times, if you're a bit messy like most people when they first start it might take 10 times. Do this with the rubber disc inserted into a basket (or with a blind filter basket like this, much easier than the rubber disc https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/52190...tainless-steel)
2. Buy some Cafetto Espresso Clean powder (500g or 1kg tub) as it is much more economical than the tablets Breville supply with the machine. I don't care if you make coffee once a week or once an hour don't wait for the machine to tell you to clean it. Use 1 tablet or 1 level scoop of the powder with either the rubber disc or blond filter above, and then run the machine's cleaning cycle. After the cleaning cycle you need to make a shot of coffee and throw it away as there will be chemical in the shot. Do this weekly.
3. Change your water filter as often as the induction book tells you to. Don't skimp out on this.
4. Descale your machine regularly. How often depends on your water quality. I'm in Sydney and I do it every 3 months.
Do all this and it won't matter so much what else you do. As for the coffee making process we are but a few taps away.
