  • Breville BES870XL (Barista Express) losing pressure and spurting out from grouphead

    Hello coffee snobs

I have a Barista Express. It's about 4 years old and has been running just fine. Recently it has started suddenly losing pressure towards the end of a pour and steam and coffee (and grinds) spit out from the top of the grouphead (not where the portafilter connects, but where the grouphead connects to the machine). It's not happening every time, probably every third pour at this stage. I'm assuming this isn't good, but I'm wondering if there is something I can do or if I need to get a professional to take a look or if the whole thing is likely not salvageable.

    Any advice gratefully received.

I can only imagine the group collar, or where the collar attaches to the frame, is worn and/or damaged. noidle22 may have more of an idea.

thanks level3ninja. Assuming that’s the issue, is it something that’s repairable it is it not worth the hassle?

Could go either way. Without actually seeing what the damage is and without knowing the machine well enough it's impossible to say.
