  • Sunbeam EM6900/6910 Filter baskets

    Hi all,

Just wandering if anyone here who owns a Sunbeam EM6900/6910 uses any aftermarket filter baskets for their machine. The single (14g) and double (28g) both 58mm - that come with the machine are actually doubles and quadraples respectively. I have been looking for a single (7g) and double (14g) basket and have since ordered 2 from coffeeparts.com, however they dont quite fit, i.e. they dont quite sit properly (they do fit diameter wise though).

Any thoughts, suggestions - anyone tried similar???

This all sought of come about after reading the review of this particular machine on coffeeco.com website where Alan discusses the filter baskets with the machine (http://www.coffeeco.com.au/articles/sunbeam.html)

    Cheers,
    JK

    Thats a good question JK...

I think the 7/14g feama baskets were used in Alan Frews review... I must get some as well...

I ordered the Gaggia and Rancilio - they are not suitable unfortunately... It was a bit of a guessing game... Looks like i am up for some additional postage costs

Actually, I can confirm it is definitely not the Faema 7g 58mm basket as it is part no. 521830 at coffeeparts.com which is the same part as for the Rancilio - which is one of the ones I ordered - Doesnt Fit

Joka, theyre certainly not perfectly interchangeable. The La marzocco baskets for instance will fit many portafilters, but not the Sunbeams. If you go for ridgeless baskets youll have a better chance of getting a fit.

This happens to be the type that Bezzera and some others use and seem to be an excellent quality component,

Just have to make sure the portafilter springs up to the job; ridgeless baskets naturally require more spring force to be held in place than a ridged basket, and PFs shipped with ridged baskets often have a thinner spring. Put ridgeless baskets in a PF designed for ridged baskets and youll sometimes lose the basket in the knockbox!

True, but stronger springs are easy and cheap to get hold of....

Absolutely. Just want to make Joka aware that every 58mm basket on the market wont necessarily be an ideal fit.
