    Re: Sold my Sunbeam EM6900

The Sunbeam EM6900 is not the current model, though.

Also, I posted the result of my sale simply because most of you guys said that I would get bugger all when I sell my Sunbeam 6900 and not because I ever thought that it will beat the Silvia in resale. It coming so close to it is good enough for me, especially as I didnt even try to get the most for my Sunbeam. I didnt even want to sell it. A work friend heard that I bought a new machine and wanted to buy my old machine. We said OK then you can have it for $300 and he said it is a deal.
As the 6910 is retailing for $699, I am sure that I could have got $350 at least for mine without trying much and that would have closed that gap between the Silvia and the Sunbeam.

The depreciation is 44.3% over 1 year and 7 months on a machine that is not a current model is OK, I think.
So, the machine has retained 56% of it value.  It might be a lower percentage figure perhaps (as you just plucked the figure out of thin air) but $239 loss as a dollar figure would be pretty much the same even if the Silvia is sold for around 68% of its value after a year and a half, which I am not sure if it would.

I could have asked for more too but the sale was through a work colleague and I wanted to be nice.
I think you did very well Monti. Based on a typical present street price of a Silvia, the CS accepted price of $500 or so for a second hand one which may be 5 years old represents a much slower depreciation rate- without even factoring in a lower buy price. I reckon a 12 month old current model would bring well in excess of $550 which is over 70% of buy price and we all know that from there it will only go as low as $500....

    Monti,

Congrats on the sale, as long as ones happy with the price it doesnt really matter what one gets, whats important is that the upgradeitis itch must be scratched.
    mmmmmmmmmmmm........Minore!

Whilst you havent sold it for nothing, that represents a depreciation of nearly 50% in a little over a year.

By comparison, other espresso machines & grinders [such as those sold by our site sponsors] would retain a much higher 2nd hand value.
As an example, from studied "Snobservation" of the CS F/S listings, a used Silvia would sell pretty quickly here if it was priced around 70% of its retail value.

    Sold my Sunbeam EM6900

I just sold my Sunbeam EM6900.

I am just posting this to give you guys an idea of what you can get for it if you wanted to sell it.
Many on this forum said that you would get nothing for one of these when you are going to upgrade.
Well, I only mentioned that I wanted to sell to two people and they both wanted to buy it and both thought that the price represented a very good deal.
I bought the machine new from Mayer in April 2006 for $539 and just sold it for $300. So, I only lost $239. That is not too bad considering that it is not even the current updated EM6910.

My brother still has the first EM6900 that we bought when they first came out (about 2.5 years ago), so I still get to use it when I go over to his place.
Working...
