You have to give Sunbeam credit - they have excellent after sales service and really do look after the customers.

Re: Another troublesome EM6900......
Sunbeam did courier the 6900 back about 2 weeks ago.
It took a few days to get to me (my couriers are faster).
The new steam pump has a bit more oomph than the old one.
One complaint though is that the steam takes longer to stop when turned off.
The group handle no longer locks in all the way to the right.
It actually stops at the arrow (around the 5:30 mark).
Everyones pleased its back; you should have seen the line as soon as they realised.
Now Im booked in to do a training lesson on it in late January.
First bullet point will be on cleaning it after use; I hate having to clean it before I start (damned amateurs).
P.S. To give credit where its due, I rang Sunbeam the other day because the metal part of the tamper comes away from the plastic handle bit.
I asked if they could recommend some food safe glue I could use to repair it and they told me not to bother, they would send me a new tamper. It arrived a few days later.

Re: Another troublesome EM6900......
Hello All,
Well I got the machine back yesterday afternoon from the Brisbane repairer (called in and collected). I must say Im extremely impressed with the repairer and Sunbeam. The repairer had it fixed within 2 weeks, as advised, and Sunbeam covered under warranty. All I did was walk in, sign for it, and walk out!
Turns out that the GH collar was badly worn due to the metal being "soft" - apparently a common problem with the 6900 which has been rectified on the 6910. Also changed the seal while they were there. Worked like a new machine last night and this morning.
Big thumbs up to both!
Cheers,
CF.

Re: Another troublesome EM6900......
Sounds just like what happened to the 6900 at work.
Sunbeam agreed to fix it as a warranty repair despite the facts that I had no receipt or any idea how old it is.
We are guessing up to 18 mths old.
Theyve had it for about a week and a half now so Im hoping I get it back in the 2 weeks rather than 4.
All it cost me was the courier to get it there.
Im hoping theyll spring for the courier to return it.

Im dropping it off to the Brisbane repairer today. I spoke to Sunbeam last week, and they assured me it would be covered under warranty - great!
Fingers crossed! Ill struggle thru Xmas without it........

Re: Another troublesome EM6900......
The TB and GH have more than 1 bolt holding it together - Id say 1 of them has let go...
Its very common on the EM6900 - I should know, I went through 3 of them!
Call Sunbeam, they are, Im led to beleive , fixing out of warrantee 6900s - it is defineately a design fault.
The Em6910 has longer bolts and has been holding up well!

Re: Another troublesome EM6900......
Thanks for your reply Marc.
Excuse my ignorance here, because Im not exactly knowledgable on the internals of this machine, but I can still make a brew (albeit not as well as I have previously) - how is that possible if, like you say, the GH has come away from the thermoblock?
Cheers,
CF.

Another troublesome EM6900......
Hello All,
Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this.
Got a Sunbeam EM6900 that has, to date, been faultless in its operation (rare, I know) other than a new GH seal, which was an easy fix. A few weeks ago, I was making a brew in the double basket. Freshly ground from EM4800 grinder at usual setting, levelled, tamped with usual pressure. About 2/3 of the way through the extraction, there was this "clunk" & "fizz" and coffee starting pouring out of every little gap in the GH. The needle on the pressure gauge instantly dropped back to zero.
My initial thoughts were:
* Maybe I had simply overdosed the basket (I sometimes cram a wee bit more in, just for an extra kick!);
* Had the grind too fine;
* Tamped too hard.
* Combination of all three!!!
So I adjusted the grind a few notches to slightly coarser, tamped slightly easier and didnt overdose. The result was a drinkable brew with considerably less crema which extracted quite watery.
In the last few weeks, I have adjusted grinder back to usual setting (pre-problem), whilst still not overdosing and tamping too hard. Results still not great, and have had this same problem a few times since. Last night was the latest - thought Id try my "ideal" way of doing things, but again I had coffee everywhere!
So Ive deduced that really the problem seems to be in the machine, not the user. Can anyone help me with this? The machine has been great till now, and being my first unit, any problem is new to me.
Appreciate any assistance / views on this.
Cheers,
CF.Tags: None
