Hmmm good call - I have the standard snobs multimeter - what setting do I put it on?

The piston does not seem seized - this type of pump pulls apart easily and all the parts seemed to be moving freely - if a buzz is still common then perhaps a wire problem may be likely.

    Hi grendel,

It would be worth checking there is 240V across the pump coil, to eliminate a wire/switch malfunction....

If there is 240V Id expect the pump to buzz.... even if the piston was seized.

At a guess.... new pump required.

I opened her up today - the constipated moose (electrical hum) sound was coming from the valve and not from the pump. In other words the pump was deathly silent - likely a dead pump then do you think? If so Ill try order one tomorrow.

The pump is the red object at the bottom of the pic and the valve is the beige and black object above it.

    Gday Grendel,

The easiest way probably, is to just hit the Hot Water Switch Switch and open the Steam Valve..... you should get water flow. If not, and the pump is still making a growling noise, then it is either a pump problem or a blockage downstream of the pump discharge.

There are a few references recently where people have had this problem (I think Viviane most recently) so a quick search will reveal how to go about removing the Valve, checking it, cleaning it and refitting. You only need the tiniest piece of crud to become lodged where it shouldnt and the Valve becomes jammed closed. All the best mate ,

    Mal.

I understand Farmer Jacks in Thornlie have Nescafe Gold on special this week... I guess youve tried all the usual - water present at inlet and sufficient pressure, disconnect outlet of pump and see if it flows?
