Hate to say it Rich, but its not uncommon and has been referred to here before....

There is stainless steel and then there is stainless steel...

Id be inclined to treat it and then oil it....Fortunately it wont affect the machine. You could push Sunbeam for a replacement but they may pull the environment objection on you and suggest you have influenced corrosion with cleaners etc.

Good luck and let us know how you go....

      Id ring Sunbeam.
      Theyve been pretty good lately.
To be fair myou have to let them know where they are being let down by their suppliers.
If they know about italready, they may have already factored in some replacement costs for the small percentage of customers willing to complain.

I had exactly the same problemo! I rang one sunbeam repair center and they said to bring the whole machine in and they would need it for a week to 10 days >, so i rang another one and they said bring in just the drip tray and the receipt and they would replace it - which they did - on the spot!!

The good thing about Sunbeam is that they dont (in my experience) argue the toss!

p.s. it pays to empty the drip tray frequently and not leave lots of water in it for long periods of time! :
