Im about to PID my machine, and I will be going with one of Jims kits with steam control. Problem is that Im not sure which one to go with - the Watlow96 at USD370 and the Watlow SD3C at USD310. Id be happy to hear from anyone who has installed either of them. One is billed as the ultimate, and is the more expensive, however the other has a pretty good write up as well, and I dont really understand the differences between them. Im happy to pay the extra if there is a reason for doing so, but obviously Id rather save my money if the two are equivalent.

Hi Viviane,
Get the S3DC- with steam control if you can extend that far. Its compact and rock solid.
There is no need to get the bigger one.
Installation is a doddle with Jims kits....Just too easy!
Enjoy....

Re: Which PID for my Silvia?
The difference between them is that the SD3C steam control kit is much easier to install.
Quote for Watlow 96 steam kit (from pidkits.com):
and this quote refers to the SD3C kit:Installation of any MLG steam control package adds complexity and time to your kit installation. The steam packages are not for everyone! But, like all of our kits, they are totally reversible. You will need to access the steam switch to complete the wiring rearrangements. Unless you have unusually long, skinny fingers, this will almost certainly mean temporarily removing the front panel.
Because of the dual SSR method this kit uses to override both the Silvias stock thermostats, installation is very straightforward and does not require access to the steam switch for rewiring.
