Ive never made a good cup yet with this or my previous espresso machine.  Im wasting my time and money (two machines and two grinders) and rapidly losing interest.
I think it is time for this machine and the grinder to go.  My coffee is crap,  Im wasting my time and the stuff occupies valuable bench space.  Ill work out a price and post it for sale.  The Iberitel Challenge grinder has had very little use.  The Solis rarely get switched on anymore.

Just a thought, have you checked the brew pressure I seem to recall reading the solis has the OPV pressure set to high. Also I assume your using a suitable tamper, sorry if Im going over old ground but having read good things about these machines over on CG I would expect better results than you are getting.

    Which LR do you drive?

A 76 Rangie for a few years, it is now on the front lawn awaiting its fate , the engine has been dropped into a 93 Disco being prepared for reregistration, then its off to the bush again. ;D

Hi P38, fellow LR fancier here, the yanks seem pretty keen on the Solis machines, just curious, have you been using a unpressurised basket, I would expect better results than youve been getting.
Yes, I use the unpressurised basket. I was roasting my own beans but have moved to buying from a roaster in my suburb to try for consistency in roast.

I suspect that making coffee requires more patience and dedication than I have.

I drink coffee black with no sugar so maybe its harder to get it just right.

I guess youve worked my Range Rover model. Which LR do you drive?

    Thanks CK.

Its been so long since Ive used tiu that I was turning the knob ythe wrong way.

I think Ive got it set correctly - now I can sell it and the grinder and give up this whole idea of coffee at home for good!

    Hey,

Had a look at your post more carefully. Mine is a solis sl-70 and if you want to have water flow you need to turn on the pump by the brew switch. If your talking about the little click for the steam boiler to come on when steaming it only takes about maybe little less then 1/4 turn.

started a topic Solis SL90 Crema cam adjustment

    Solis SL90 Crema cam adjustment

I had to pull the Solis SL90 apart to replace the boiler (after 6 months of it sitting on the workshop bench in pieces. Not the fault of Diamond C services - they got the parts to me in a couple of days - it took six months for me to order them after getting the pricing from Simon at Diamond-C :-[. )

However, I made the mistake of loosening the grubscrew on the cam that operates the microswitch to turn on the "turbine" (water pump, not pressure pump).

It appears I now have it correctly set but Im not sure.

Id appreciate it if another Solis owner could check the operation of their switch for me.

Put a container under the steam wand and rotate the knob (unit powered up but cold) and compare it to mine.

    Mine:

A 1/4 turn open turns on the water pump and water comes out of the wand.
Turn another 1/4 turn turns off the water pump and, if hot, would only allow steam to flow.

(Im too embarrassed to ask Diamond-C for help. :-[ )

    Thanks in advance.

    Ron
