Re: Trying to find the right machine...

I am in the process of identifying which machine I would need. I was looking at the Oscar and would be interested in your opinion after you have used it. I am also curious as to the size of the PF.

I live in Cairns so any info will help as I will have to import most of the machines I have identified as in my needs bracket. :-/

    Reubster,

Sounds good; thanks much for the input. I was also looking at the Pasquini Livia. Seems like another good one... Anyhow thanks again!

    Hi Andrewpence

Not sure exactly what you mean by this comment, most home semi auto machines have a brew switch [or lever], you flick it on to start the flow and "manually" switch it off to stop the flow [hopefully at the 25 sec, 60ml no blonding point].
There is also "volumetric" brewing, where you flick the switch to start the brewing and the machine "Knows" when to stop.
Most of us here, prefer the manual off method because it gives better control/choice of what ends up in the cup. That said in a properly set up machine, especially in a busy cafe situation, volumetric delivery can be very effective.
Also, the volumetric function adds electronics which add $$$ and also another point of failure.

Eitherway though, for the ammount of coffees you want to prepare an HX machine would be the starting point and the Oscar is probably the entry level from a price perspective.
By all counts [I havent tried it myself] its a great machine. The trade-off to keep the price down is a plastic body and a lower "bling" factor, but in the flesh they [especially the black one] look pretty good.
If youre in Melbourne, Veneziano Cafe [site sponsor] have then on display and could no doubt demo them.

VC and other site sponsors [see left] would be very helpful, since they have a range of machines and with their experience could find the right balance of features, Bling and $$$$.

    Good luck.

Trying to find the right machine...

Im trying to find the right machine to host around 10-20 coffee drinkers a couple times a week. My wife and I are VERY fledgling baristas at a local coffee bar and we love the machines we use there. We grind and tamp the coffee then just press a button to pour the extraction. I was looking at a couple, so far the one that looks like it will work out well is the Nouvo Simonelli Oscar. We definatley want something with a boiler capacity that will allow for line of drinks without too much wait and we dont mind paying for a quality mid-range machine. Im looking for something comercial or semi comercial grade. Any help would be greatly appriciated!
Working...
