    Re: Problems with EM6910 or EM0480 ??

I have the EM6900 and it has been working a treat for the last 2 years. Recently the group head seal has deteriorated and I have had to get a replacement. I replaced the seal the other night and at the moment water is still leaking out the side of the basket. Is this normal for a fresh seal? The other thing is when I first got the machine the basket didnt turn all the way to stop (assuming because of the pressure from the seal). Now with the new seal it still turns all the way to stop.

Can someone give me some feedback on where I might be going wrong based on their experience.

    Cheers
    Dan

      Hi Dan,

Youve just encounted the dreaded "Group has come away from the Thermoblock" problem. Very commom on the EM6900 - I went through 3 units until Igot upgraded to the EM6910. This issue was fixed on the EM6910 and I beleive Sunbeam have a fix and it has been performed by service agents. Give Sunbeam a call and tell them what I said here and you should be looked after.

The Sunbeam allows simultaneous brew and steam. May I suggest, pre pouring your milk in to your frothing pitcher, pull your shot using the volumetrics and start your milk immediately. You dont have to worry about stopping your shot...the machine will do it for you.

              ;D
              New problems....
My grind setting varies from 1-5 using the EM0480.
Im still using a batch of coffee that was roasted on the 20th of Feb(maybe this is the problem).
I find that the pour now starts off with a dark black syrup type pour for a couple of seconds and then eventually becomes a nice crema.
Is this normal ?? am i tamping too hard ???

Also, what does it mean when the coffee puck gets stuck to the shower head ???  :

I have also gotten this when I up dose a little too much...

The puck will expand when the water is flowing and depending on the grind, how hard you tamp and how much you updosed... Then the puck will expand and grab/stick to the shower head... If it was a light tamp then the puck will come away from the group basket and stick to the shower head.

It is all about being consistent...
