Re: So whats next after a EM6910

a few people say i should upgrade my grinder, but Im not really sure how much of an improvement it will make. Will I see the $ worth of improvement between it and say a mazzer?
What sort of grinder do you have now Iconiq? Without this knowledge, the short answer would be..... Maybe, No, Yes.....

I dont think upgrading the MDF will show a marked improvement with the 6910.

Id say there was a slight improvement from the 0450 to the MDF but I dont think the 6910 will do much better even with a better grinder.

Thats said though without having tried it.
Im not about to lug the Macap or Gino Rossi in to work to find out.

Yeah Id have to agree with TG on this one. Paired up, the MDF and the 6910 should do everything paired up machines in this class should do. So for example, if you wanted to step up the machine to say a HX to the pointy end, you may then want to upgrade the grinder too. Maybe you could go down the line of upgrading the grinder, seeing if it makes any huge difference on the 6910, with the plan of upgrading the machine in the future to a HX, DB or commercial setup.

Well, Ive got the EM6910 with the EM0480 now and my upgrade path will probably be K3T and possibly the Makin.

Mate the EM is a nice machine but you will get sweeter shots from a higher end machine. Talk to Chris at Talk Coffee or another sponsor and get an opinion. There are some beautiful looking machines - I see some of the hot looking machines for home are going to have rotary pump options aswell.

I had in mind, as a distant thought mind, that at some point I would go for something shiny as an upgrade, but out of nowhere came my commercial machine and I had to take it and have had no regrets and love it and the repeatable shot after shot performance (sweet shots) and the steam power. I also use the hot water wand a lot - its about 100 times faster than the EMs wand...

                Cheers

Id like to disagree with TG. I had an 0480 with my 6910 and upgraded to a mazzer SJ (as many others have). The difference, spectacular. Im no expert and doubt I would have noticed any subtle change... IMO, upgrade the grinder. When the 6910 dies or youve got some spare $$$ then get a better machine. Just make sure you never have to upgrade the grinder again, spend the cash its well worth it.

Re: So whats next after a EM6910

Id be very surprised if a better grinder wont improve the shots from a 6910 by quite a margin.....

As is often said - and I believe it to be true - that the coffee machine itself is the least important in the chain of making quality coffee (assuming that it is adequate for the task of course.....)

So with skill, freshly roasted and freshly ground quality beans I think you will find it worthwhile getting a better grinder - and the shots will improve noticeably.....
