Re: So whats next after a EM6910
Id be very surprised if a better grinder wont improve the shots from a 6910 by quite a margin.....
As is often said - and I believe it to be true - that the coffee machine itself is the least important in the chain of making quality coffee (assuming that it is adequate for the task of course.....)
So with skill, freshly roasted and freshly ground quality beans I think you will find it worthwhile getting a better grinder - and the shots will improve noticeably.....

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
Id like to disagree with TG. I had an 0480 with my 6910 and upgraded to a mazzer SJ (as many others have). The difference, spectacular. Im no expert and doubt I would have noticed any subtle change... IMO, upgrade the grinder. When the 6910 dies or youve got some spare $$$ then get a better machine. Just make sure you never have to upgrade the grinder again, spend the cash its well worth it.Originally posted by Thundergod link=1204205887/15#17 date=1204501411I dont think upgrading the MDF will show a marked improvement with the 6910.
Id say there was a slight improvement from the 0450 to the MDF but I dont think the 6910 will do much better even with a better grinder.

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
Mate the EM is a nice machine but you will get sweeter shots from a higher end machine. Talk to Chris at Talk Coffee or another sponsor and get an opinion. There are some beautiful looking machines - I see some of the hot looking machines for home are going to have rotary pump options aswell.
I had in mind, as a distant thought mind, that at some point I would go for something shiny as an upgrade, but out of nowhere came my commercial machine and I had to take it and have had no regrets and love it and the repeatable shot after shot performance (sweet shots) and the steam power. I also use the hot water wand a lot - its about 100 times faster than the EMs wand...
Cheers

Well, Ive got the EM6910 with the EM0480 now and my upgrade path will probably be K3T and possibly the Makin.

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
Yeah Id have to agree with TG on this one. Paired up, the MDF and the 6910 should do everything paired up machines in this class should do. So for example, if you wanted to step up the machine to say a HX to the pointy end, you may then want to upgrade the grinder too. Maybe you could go down the line of upgrading the grinder, seeing if it makes any huge difference on the 6910, with the plan of upgrading the machine in the future to a HX, DB or commercial setup.

Thats said though without having tried it.
Im not about to lug the Macap or Gino Rossi in to work to find out.

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
What sort of grinder do you have now Iconiq? Without this knowledge, the short answer would be..... Maybe, No, Yes.....a few people say i should upgrade my grinder, but Im not really sure how much of an improvement it will make. Will I see the $ worth of improvement between it and say a mazzer?

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
Wow guys, thanks a lot, I couldnt have asked for a better reply. There is a lot of thinking and reading ahead i guess. To be honest, I think Im sort of happy with the espresso from the sunbeam "can you read in the certainty???" but Im a little disappointed with the steaming ability. I have a really old sunbeam, a small crappy machine in comparison to the em6910, but with a little bit of playing, it makes better steam. Also, I’m a mine worker, and my family doesnt really appreciate the noise at 5 am, that the sunbeam sends through the whole house.
Ive had a few people say i should upgrade my grinder, but Im not really sure how much of an improvement it will make. Will I see the $ worth of improvement between it and say a mazzer? Ha ha, on that point, would a mazzer be the way to go?
Hmmm, to be brutally honest with myself, I really just want to upgrade because i know there is something better. Who can resist nice shiny toys?
Thanks again for all the feedback, I’ll put it to good use and let yous know what I end up doing!

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
As lots of folks have indicated above already, you need to first identify what it is you want to improve, whether your needs have changed, would a better grinder serve you better and allow you to improve shot quality with your existing hardware, etc etc..... Its a long list and only you can provide the answers. Once you have refined and focused your requirements, it will be much easier to knock-up a short list of possible candidates. Some of our site-sponsors have got some fantastic deals going off right now so maybe if you can make your way to one or two of them in your neighbourhood, they will be able to demonstrate the pros and cons of various machines to help you towards a decision.Originally posted by Iconiq link=1204205887/0#0 date=1204205887The title pretty much says it all. Im looking to upgrade, what do you guys think is the next step up the evolutionary ladder from the EM6910?
Its not easy but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun.... All the best Iconiq

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
I thought that might come from you
If not I thought Lucinda might have a go at me for that... yeah I rate the MDF too... but, like my Rocky, itd end up being relegated to the decaf or for courser plunger grind once I get my next one... but I still couldnt part with it.
Id just have to have an MDF, PLUS

Re: So whats next after a EM6910
Trouble is YeeZa that the MDF is a very good grinder.
If I didnt have my Macap (or the Gino Rossi ;D ) Id be quite content with my MDF.
