    Re: EM6910...Probably needs a recall

Funny how from a post about the 6910 stuffing up, it leads to stale coffee/freshly roasted coffee!

Yeah..whaahaahaa. tis just like real life face to face convos in that regard. I have to laugh sometimes when conversation can start on any subject whatsoever at home and always flows naturally and unnoticeably on to cars and football!! Whats up with that? *snort*

Back on topic! I think if a poll was done on how many C/Sers had a 6910 it would be quite high. Of those people who had Minor problems such as an airlock when removing the water tank, the numbers would be quite high, others who had major problems which required replacement much much less.
So to do a full recall on the machine to fix a few problems may be a bit ambitious.

Typical Remy ...... OT topic again and a statement not unlike his other post ... Where he has it all wrong and a little unfair ;D

For most of those I have to deal with state that, the NEWS goes OFF after 6 to 7 min as then the show reverts to a waste of time and often about a bit of pig skin... :

For me at home it always flows naturally and unnoticeable to fine food and coffee ( Kids present) ... Usually then on to how my skills are not improving as well as they should... ;D

After lights out.... it always flows naturally and unnoticeable to SLEEP... :-X

BUT NEVER FOOT BALL or CARS.

Motor bikes ... Yes @ Times.

As coffee is for all at our place, and a time to chat together... Rest assured, if I was to have stale beans or something from Coles etc ... Then it would not be a good time as I would be questioned as to why..

PS. Remy... I actually saw nothing wrong with ya post.. Quite factual actually.

Yep indeed it would. I think it has been established now though,.that the problems Gavin1 was talking about are in fact not really problems as such,..but just some quirks of this machine. To be fair on Gavin1 however,.. I totally understand where he was coming from,.. these are stupid little quirks and its easy to think something is not quite right with your new machine.

It would definitely help,. if more information was given in the manual. What is totally lacking when buying one of these machines IMO,..is good support (but I guess maybe we shouldnt expect it at this price range). The support people we have spoken to have given really vague advice at best,. they dont seem to know a thing about how to make a decent coffee, let alone what their machine really sounds like. Telling customers that you just need a really fine grind and you have to tamp three times,.. is not what I would call very helpful advice when you are trying to find the right fineness of grind on anything other than their grinder.

BTW Gavin1,.. I forgot to say in the last post,...........Am I jealous of your new toy??? Hailllllll yes!!! All the best with it,.. Ill just watch your progress and drool a lot.

Hey AM.. hope ya dont mind... just condensed your quote a little,.. you know how I like to keep things short,..phrrrrrrt.

So youre not stuck in the football and cars converstation loop?  Id kill for decent conversation like coffee and fine food. It just never happens here. If I mention anything coffee here,.. the lights are on but nobody is home.  :  spose thats why I yarp so much here.

I just got a new mini mazzer! god shots here I come!

Sunbeam machines generally cater for the average coffee drinker who just expect black liquid to flow from their machine. Not many will pull shots after shots aiming for that sexy looking 25second pour before being satisfied.

With mass production of a machine, theres definitely some that will be a little messed up.

ZOMG and a mini mazzer too??!!! noooh!! .. I was going to come and visit you in the pointy forum to see how youre going with your new machine,.. but I might have to wait until I stop beating my head against the keyboard now.

I totally agree, I also think that the Sunbeam caters for the average coffee drinker,. and I think most would never go much further into coffee than grabbing some ground with their weekly grocery shopping and still be very happy with that, which is of course completely fine since not everyone is so interested in the humble coffee bean.  Then youll get us coffee snobs(of varied degrees),.. who find this machine to be in the right price range,.. but want to make it do things that we learn here on the forum. We refine our technique and adapt it to suit the machine,.. pimp the steam, pimp the heat and so on. But like most things in life,... if money was no object,...would I be making coffee everyday with a Sunbeam 6910??? No way!! Id be up there playing with a pointy one  ;D

I think you have to take your hat off to Sunbeam for producing such a machine in that price range. It has brought the capacity for good coffee to everyone.

I must confess to recommending this machine to four friends, who I didnt think could handle the idiosyncrasies of Miss Silvia. They are all very happy with their machines, and enjoy fresh coffee every day.

Once you get used to the chunk chunk chunk of the steam thermoblock, they are not too bad. As always, it largely depends on freshness, grind and tamp.....

Yes indeed,. I think that is very true. I myself just wanted to get away from instant coffee at home and relying on good coffee through local cafes was too often disappointing. I freely admit,.. if it wasnt for the manufacturers of these cheaper entry level espresso machines including them in the appliance section of regular stores,.. Id never have figured out that I could actually have an espresso machine right here in my kitchen (albeit obviously not on par with specialised espresso machines). I am thrilled with my 6910 and I hope to have it for a very long time,... but by then I might be able to do something about the upgraditis that will likely take hold. I also have recommended this machine to others,.. with the promise to help them learn how to make it produce great shots and help them understand its funny little quirks.

I agree - the 6910 is a good machine for its price range - I dont think you can get better for $600. But - someone else said in a different topic the major problem is that Sunbeam are marketing this as a prosumer machine when infact it is not. I totally agree with that too.

The 6910 has got a lot of people into espresso that maybe would not have taken that path if not for this machine...that is good!! Probably down the track when the machine finally passes on they will go to the next level of machine with the knowledge they have gathered from using 6910 and all the great advice for tweaking it on CS. I went very close to purchasing one as well but the longevity of Silvia sold me over.

                                Re: EM6910...Probably needs a recall

I read the Probably needs a recall as partly facesious, partly based on a couple of other recently active threads here where owners of the 6910 were complaining of problems.

I tend to think of the Sunbeam as a prosumer machine in terms of capability, but without the longevity and reliability of a real prosumer machine. Not bad value for 600 bucks, but to be honest if Id had $1500 or so to spend, theres no way Id have bought a made-in-china appliance.

Ill definitely be upgrading at some point in the future, but certainly dont regret buying the Sunbeam when I did.
