  • Water Purifying Methods

I have just been reading about the problems people are having in Perth, where I am from, with a buildup in the tank. I use a Brita jug to purify all water I drink, and whaen I get the new machine, I would like to have the best quality water.

What do others use to Purify water?

    Re: Water Purifying Methods

Brita filters will remove the calcium hardness.... but here in Perth that function very rapidly becomes exhausted (well before the filter ceases to act as a filter for other impurities.....

You would need to change them very frequently.

Chris in Melbourne changes his every 8 weeks (which sounds about right) but Melbourne has 10-26mg of the problem calcium/magnesium salts....

Here in Perth we have up to 220mg/L or more..... so you would need to change your filter weekly.... rather expensive.

I use a commercial inline water softener (not surprising as I have a commercial machine!) but they are very effective, are recharged with table salt - and arent that expensive to buy....

Probably an ion exchange water softener like that is your best bet here.

      Re: Water Purifying Methods

As per the previous post I made this weekend about buildup noticed in my Silvias tank, Im using a thermos jug currently but was shocked to find buildup in the tank here in Perth
I dont care about it as far as cleaning is concerned but what might it be doing to the insides of the machine!!!
Any feedback from you all as to whether it can do damage or do we just need to descale more often??!!
Anybody have any brand names or suppliers re these inline/ ion exchanged water softeners to help us out here in Perth!!! Dont want to contravene anything regarding site policies/ sponsors etc and brand names, just need a bit of guidance...

        Gday Nikki,

One of our newer site sponsors just happens to specialise in this aspect of equipment preventative maintenance and Im sure will be able to advise you of the most appropriate method/system to use and possibly even a local agency who could look after you 8-)...... Drop a PM to "Bombora" listed over on the top L/H side of the page and Im sure you will be well looked after.

        Cheers,
        Mal.
